Yesterday at 05:04 PM Mexican Peppers by Aint

You don't have to drink the water in Mexico. You can stay right here and get the same effect- or worse.

A recent Salmonella outbreak has been traced to Mexican peppers. The US Food and Drug Administration says they are surprised by the source of the outbreak because Mexican peppers had not been spotted as a problem before. Bullshit, which by the way, is a potential carrier of Salmonella.

In the course of the past year over 100 shipments of peppers from Mexico were turned away for either being dirty and diseased and/or outright having Salmonella. That's over 100 out of the less than 1% that were inspected.

Why are we so determined to make NAFTA work when it so obviously does not? Mexico either needs to get it's stuff up to snuff or peddle it's wares elsewhere. We Americans deserve better than to be poisoned by our so called trade partners.

We should immediately and severely curtail our importation of food stuffs from Mexico. This policy should stay in effect until Mexico can provide us with safe food. If Mexico gets upset, too damn bad. If they want to say we are being undiplomatic and unneighborly, too damn bad. I'll tell you what's undiplomatic and unneighborly, sending your neighbor poisoned food. That's what.

08/18/08 03:32 PM Objectivity Needed! by Chocolategenii

When I discovered that Karl Rove attended a conference in Yalta where also attending there was Saakashivil. Then, after a few days Georgia employees military force to stop a break - away province in Georgia that wanted to re-join Russia.....I knew that something wasn't right!

Put aside partisanship for a moment. When a guy like Rove, who is trying to get McCain elected, travels to Georgia to meet with the Georgia President and following the meeting that country decides to use military force, well something is rotten in Denmark! What is Rove thinking? McCain's chance for the White House will increase if there is another war the US is involved in?

Are we being dragged into a war with Russia just so another Rovian neo con can can be in the White House??
(Bush plans to place "missile shields" in Poland is equivalent to Russia placing the same in Mexico or Canada) Bear in mind the Russian forces are NOT the same as a rag-tag insurgency placing IED on roadsides...then running away fast!

Objectivity NEEDED! Object to Rove, McCain and Bush's belligerent attitude OR soon you will be repeating, "It was all a mistake!" (like Iraq).

The neo cons will go to great lengths to win the White House.

08/18/08 02:32 PM Cone of Silence? by Helice

According to Candidate McCain's official blog (http://tinyurl.com/63f22q), Senator McCain was not actually isolated in a "Cone of Silence", as was announced with a wink and tongue-in-cheek by Mr. Warren, the pastor of Saddleback, who directed questions to both candidates. "Cone of Silence" is a reference to a fictional device used on the comedy sitcom "Get Smart!", in which secret agents would enter a hooded contraption meant to completely ensure that their classified conversations would be unheard by the outside world. The humor ensued from the issue that the device never worked as described -- the users had difficulty hearing one another, but outside passers-by could hear everything they said perfectly.

McCain's blog entry characterizes the Obama camp as "whining" about the fact that McCain was not actually isolated and in view of his readiness with answers to Mr. Warren's questions.

Spokemen from McCain's camp told CNN reporters that McCain did not listen to the questions in advance, nor did he get them from any of his staff beforehand, and expressed angrily that insinuations of cheating by McCain, "a former prisoner of war", were outrageous.

Mr. Warren started the second half of the forum by asking McCain, “Now, my first question: Was the Cone of Silence comfortable that you were in just now?” McCain responded with “I was trying to hear through the wall.”

All things being equal, McCain had the opportunity to "cheat" by obtaining the questions beforehand, but we have his word that he did not, and suggestions that he may have cheated by his opponent's side are being called "sour grapes" and "outrageous".

If the roles had been reversed, and Obama had been chosen to go second, had been in a motorcade instead of the announced "Cone of Silence" with the opportunity to obtain questions and prepare answers in advance, and virtuously denied cheating when charged with it by McCain's side, how would the smack talk go? About the same? Or would the accusations come out sharper and dirtier, and the protestations of innocence be more reserved and refrain from terms like "whining"?

Do you all think that either candidate is too honest to "cheat" in this sense, by dishonestly pre-preparing answers to forum questions that are supposed to be a surprise? Both too honest? Neither? Or just one?

08/18/08 09:22 AM Musharaff Resigns! by Sleek Phantom Mystic

Pervez Musharaff resigned today after feeling the heat from impeachment charges ( Who knew Pakistan had more courage than our Congress ).

Musharaf being the selfish man I knew he was stated that....... The honor and dignity of the Country would be affected in his view..

Officials stated that Musharaff had sought immunity from prosecution ( I guess he could do like our President and excuse himself ).

In my oppinion this man was a fraud from day one and he used the excuse of the war on terror to crack down on his enemies ( Because he won't touch Al Queda that is within his borders ). We knew he was a crook but when you're desperate for allies you'll use anybody.

I also believe that he was responsible for the death of Benazir Bhutto, in which he blamed the terrorist.

Hopefully Pakistan can also put their dark chapter behind them also, just as we ( The U.S.) will this coming election.

08/17/08 02:19 AM Essential Tremor by lizbeth

Essential tremor is a condition rather than a disease. It's symptoms are very similar to Parkinson's, a disease about which very little is known, except it's usually less severe.

Some things known about essential tremor are that it's congenital, progressive and chronic, meaning people die with it rather than from it. It most often affects nothing more than the hands, although it can also involve the head, speech and overall balance. The tremor is caused by the inability of the brain to control the electrical impulses that regulate various muscle groups.

I know of two drugs that are used to help tremor--diazipam (Valium) and propranolol. Propranolol is a non-selective beta-blocker used primarily to control hypertension, angina and other heart related conditions and tremor. Valium is an anti-anxiety drug used for mild anxiety and muscle spasms. Both drugs have side effects, of course. Using more than the recommended dosage of propranolol can lead to chemically induced anorexia while long-term use of Valium can lead to drug dependency.

When my initial neurologist noticed that I was losing weight and still had tremor, he recommended I consult another neurologist who worked with a neurosurgeon who, in concert with a biomedical appartus developement company, had become a leader in what's called something like deep implant surgery.

This involves findiing the exact location of the area of the cerebellum, located anterior to the brain stem, that is dysfuntional, and, while very carefully following a non-destructive route from beneath a hole drilled into the top of the skull (closed with a titanium disk) around the brain to the cerebellum, carefully inserting electrodes connected to a wire 'lead' into the appropriate area of the cerebullum.

Throughout this segment of the surgery, the patient is awake and responsive. His/her head is rendered immobile by a metal 'halo,' screwed through the skin of the scalp and forehead and attached to a receptacle in the operating table.

The patient must be awake and responsive in order to allow the neurologist to test the strength of the electrical pulses received by the electrodes. I used the opportunity to ask Dr. Roberts if the surgery meant I'd be able to play the violin. After a two beat silence, his eyes appeared under the drape over my head and he asked, "Do you play the violin now?" "No." I'm sure the team had heard it before, but they all laughed.

Then came the anesthesia--but not before I heard a partial conversation between my neurosurgeon and the doctor from the medical apparatus lab that went something like this: Oh, s**t! What happened?" "I don't know, it just broke." I'm awfully glad I heard no more.

The next step is to push the wire lead under the skin of the neck and the chest to a 'pocket' in the chest wall where a pulse generator is implanted, hook the generator to the lead and close everything up.

Post-op is primarily having your battery levels checked every six months--totally non-invasive.

I've gone through this twice now.

Aren't science and technology wonderful?

08/16/08 11:51 AM The World Saw Magic by cassielA

I am sure many people all over the world have smiles on their faces after watching Usain Bolt showing the world what it's like to be god blessed. Usain Bolt has ensured that these Olympics will go down in history. Let's pray there are no illegal drugs involved. Who would have ever believed that you would have heard dance hall music from Jamaica in China.

08/15/08 01:14 AM Partisanship: Bane of Good Government by DCInC

Politics is strictly Old Testament. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, sucker punch for a sucker punch.

And, pulling this thing back to discipleship, politics is ALL about discipleship... the most fervent political hacks are rabid disciples of a chosen cause, or platform of causes, or charasmatic figure promoting certain policies. Loyal... studious... devoted to a fault... untiring... undoubting... followers.
It certainly is. Which brings up another aspect of discipleship we could consider.

Let's call it the difference between favourable discipleship and unfavourable discipleship. For instance which is preferrable - the discipleship of partisan junkies of a political leader with charm who says and does what it takes to win the election not based upon any particular principles other than to win - or - the discipleship of a nation who elects a true leader who has only the best of intentions and the capability of carrying out those intentions for that nation as a whole being above partisan issues.

More specifically would it not be better for instance to stand united behind the leaders of your country irregardless of your political views than to carry partisanship into the governing of the country? After all it is election time where differences should be made known and applied by the electorate, not at any other time when the country needs to be running smoothly in unity.

I tend to think partisan politics, in its extremes, breeds poor government since the true leaders could very well be passed by because of blinded discipleship. That situation continues to grow until the country becomes severely disfunctional or dies altogether because rather than running the country according to its best interest its leaders are more concerned about posturing for the next election having concerns more for being elected or elected again.

This seems to be happening quite vividly in US politics in increasing measure especially with the deep polarized partisan divisions in the country with its opposing extremes. It is certainly less than in middle east countries but significantly more than here in Canada (which isn't much different in divisive nature just intensity). Proper political discipleship breeds strong and proper national leadership.

US media like Rush and the traditional liberal media do not help the cause to look for true leadership but instead encourage greater divisiveness within the country. Rush is a hoot though. smile

08/14/08 08:16 PM Caller ID Blocking Frustration by Helice

Not strictly a computer question, but I'm stumped on how how to get my phone to do what I want.

At some point, my phone service turned on Caller ID blocking on my outgoing calls I didn't do it myself). As a result, many people I call who have their phones set to reject anonymous calls are rejecting my calls.

How the heck can I permanently change this so that I'm not blocking my info any more?

08/13/08 05:00 PM Lip-Synching in Beijing by yopie3

NEWS STORY - "real" singer in Beijing not televised because she is "not attractive enough". Am I being over-sensitive to this? I have a 12 year old daughter and I find this to be a frightening and devastating message we are sending to our kids, especially our little girls. Any other opinions on this?

08/13/08 03:39 PM Gunman Critically Wounds Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman by Helice

Bill Gwatney, chairman of the Arkansas Democratic party, was shot and critically wounded in his office in Little Rock Arkansas, shortly before the timestamp on this post.

After bursting into Gwatney's office after unsuccessfully requesting to speak with him, the single gunman fired three close-range shots at Gwatney and drove away. The gunman was apprehended by police after being shot during a lengthy chase.

Gwatney is reported to be in critical condition.

Motive for the shooting is still unreported.

Issac Hayes, whose music was the percursor to both disco and rap...and creator of urban- contemporary music, died at his home, age 65. He was found next to his tradmill.

Probably best known for his theme song to "Shaft"...my favorite was his version of
"Walk On By"...
