Y'all hear about this?

Some web editor at ESPN wrote about Knicks player Jeremy Lin and used the phrase 'chink in the armor'. Lin is of obvious Asian lineage. ESPN fired the guy.

What a crock.

chink [chingk]
noun
1.
a crack, cleft, or fissure: a chink in a wall.
2.
a narrow opening: a chink between two buildings.

And the phrase 'chink in the armor' has been around for a long, long time. It has nothing to do with Asians. But since there are so many PC pansies, this editor lost his job.

a term when used around chinese people, will result in a broken spine, chopped off nuts and chop sticks so far up the ass they'd be shitting splinters for a good month

i once called a chinese guy a chink and now im a parapaligic janitor at my old high school

Uh-huh. Whole aisle of crackers at the grocery store. Who's getting fired for that? Nobody, because a box of crackers isn't racist any more than a chink in the armor is.

So why did this guy get fired over chink in the armor? I can't figure it out. He didn't call Lin a chink in armor.

I don't think he should have been fired for making a racist comment and I don't know what the penalty should be for putting a stupid offensive joke in print while under the employ of someone else.

What about "Linsanity"? Isn't that derogatory toward crazy people?

Well, no. I'm pretty sure it's just temporary linsanity.

I heard the statement in question and it did not seem to me like the sportscaster was intentionally using a racist term.

Some years ago people got all hot under the collar because someone had used the perfectly good word "niggardly" (which means cheap or stingy) because it sounded like the word "nigger."

The outrage over that word is one of the most perfect examples of fringe lefties going way way overboard. Blacks used it as a cause of outrage, and I like to think that it was done out of ignorance of the American language, rather than a cynical ploy to exploit the emotions of blacks. Either way is bad, but come on--Americans are stupid enough. Let's get these people on Dictionary.com and force them to look up words. They read so slowly they'd use up a lot of their stupid time just trying to find the definition, and that, my friends, is a good thing.

If the writer of the story can produce other articles where he questioned what limitations a seemingly unstoppable player may have using the term "chink in the armor" then he should be apologized to for the reaction by people with nothing better to do. If not I say he intended it to be just as it was percieved causing his dismissal. In that case creating plausible excuses for what he wrote is nearly as bad as his stupid offensive joke.

He'd not be the first to find a little time on his hands to regret something that could have easily been avoided.

As Lin is an American, the term chink in the armor would not apply racially. His parents are natives of Taiwan, making him Formosan at best.
