I don't know how it works either.

President Barrack Hussein Obama (I didn't name the man) wants US cars to get 54.5 mpg by the year 2025. I'd like them to get that by noon tomorrow. Gas was $3.47 a gallon today.

US auto makers say that will raise the price of cars too high for many Americans. They say it will raise the price of a new car by $3,000.

Ladies and gentlemen, once upon a time remembered by some of you still alive today, $3,000 was what a new car cost. Don't piss on my head and tell me raining, like new cars weren't going to cost more by 2025 anyway.

US auto makers also say things like no one knows what the economy will be in 2025 or what American's driving habits will be. But they can damn sure tell you cars will cost $3,000 more and you won't be able to afford them.

The Auto industry has vigorously resisted every safety and economy measure proposed by the government. They resisted safety glass; seat belts; air bags; child seats; catalytic converters...you name the good feature, the auto industry resisted it. The thanks we owe the government for bailing out the auto industry is not coming from the auto industry. From its shareholders, maybe, but not from the industry itself.

Anyone suggesting that the US doesn't need to quickly reduce its dependence on fossil fuel is either in the employ of big oil, a paid lobbyist or Congressman for same; an avid Fox News listener who believes everything they hear from that outlet; and/or a first rate imbecile.

If only Petrol Gasoline was so cheap here. It is about $1.50 a litre here. Electric and other fuel cars are still too expensive but they will come in when gasoline becomes too expensive

Europe and Australia have always chaffed Americans for bitching about high gas prices. There's no question gasoline here is cheaper than in Europe and Oz, but we're quickly catching up to you. Avg. $4.00 / gallon here in Connecticut.

One Of the by Products of not having a Recession is that Australia is very expensive. Our currency compare to the American dollar is too high for exports and attracting tourists. The Australians I know who have recently visited the USA said food, clothes and services are far cheaper there than here.

I think we're actually paying quite a bit more for a gallon of gas than the pump price would indicate but, for the most part, we're pretty stupid about considering what it costs to determine the current price we pay.

At current prices, doubling the miles per gallon would decrease the cost per mile by as much as 50%, allowing a higher initial cost to be recovered within a reasonable amount of time. However, the external benefits, being unimportant to most of us, would be harder to quantify in a way that most people could be expected to realize.

Cy, you seem to be laboring under the delusion that the Auto Industry and the Oil industry are not in cahoots. Allow me to disabuse you of that notion.
