I read a study once that suggested that living with cats make women smarter and men dumber. This article deals with the same topic... My question is what came first domestication or the cat. Archaeology demonstrates that while dogs were the companions of humans already during the hunter gatherer phase... cats and civilization were inextricably linked. This gives rise to the question: Does the testosterone dampening effect and female mental rewiring side-effect of living with cats (as described in this article) enable humans to live in closer knit groups thereby giving rise to permanent settlements and cities? If so, it may be that we were domesticated by the cat, and not the other way around. Perhaps the Egyptians had it right to pay homage to Bastet, the cat goddess.
