There are rumors going around that Israel will attack Iran this year. Israel has withdrawn from some joint military exercises with the US. Suspicion is rising that Iran is a strong ally with Al Qaeda.

Anybody want to pick a winner? Think it will by Israel and the US vs Iran?

Win what? What in the world would Americans gain if Israel attacked Iran? ....and why is this our business?

While Israel might drop the first bomb in the long term Iran would be the winner. Iran lost the initial war with Iraq but now is the winner with a Shites government in Iraq.

In general, if Israel feels its security is threatened by a country that seeks its destruction, it will win.

The real question seems to be whether or not the US will be actively involved. There is no question they are tacitly involved.

To answer CGs question, if Israel destroyed Iran's nuclear capability, the US and all western nations would benefit. Israel would also benefit by showing Iran that Israel cannot be so easily wiped off the map, no matter what Allah tells them.

To suggest that Iran is not an enemy of America is patent nonsense.

Dax, if surviving is winning than Israel will win. But the destruction of Iran nuclear weapon will make sure hat Saudi Arabia will get nuclear weapons. Is Israel go to attack every country that develops nuclear weapons. It will be in many wars .
Also if Iran is the USA enemy so it much of the Arab world.

In Israel's case, seeing that they are dealing with countries who would like Israel off the map and all Jews dead, then you are correct--Israel will survive.

Iran is an embarrassment to many Arab countries, since their leader is nuts and under the thumb of the Ayatollahs.

Saudi Arabia, if they had or have nukes, is not as likely to use them against their a-hole buddy America as Iran is.

Bin Laden was a Saudi who resented America's alliance with Saudi Arabia, which caused him to leave the country, caused many in the country to hate him, and ultimately caused his death.

As long as there is oil, the US and Saudi Arabia will be close.

Dax, Most arab countries have said they believe Israel should exist on the 1967 borders. Few if any want to wipe Israel off the map. A few fanatics might have said this but it is not the policy of any Arab government. Iran is not Arab and disliked by most sunnis.
However it is powerful with a long history of independence.Saudi Arabians are the only Muslim to actually attack the USA. The government deny responsibility but it is likely some members of the Saudi government were aware of the September 11 attack.

There are many beside Bin Laden who hate the USA for having troops in the holy country of Saudi Arabia. Recent events in Iraq where the Sunni Vice President is threaten with arrest had added to this .

Why were American troops in Saudi Arabia?

I'll tell you.

When Iraq attacked Kuwait on the pretense that Kuwait had stolen their oil, America fought on the side of the Kuwaitis. In order to do so, they asked permission of the Saudi leaders to station troops there. The Saudis agreed, but only for the duration of the war.

When the war ended, the secretary of defense (Dick Cheney) promised the Saudis that the troops would leave.

The war ended, and the troops did not leave. Dick Cheney had broken his promise to the Saudis. The continuing presence of the troops angered some Saudis like bin Laden, who vowed revenge against America. So in a way, you could say that Dick Cheney is responsible for the attack on the world Trade Center, the Pentagon and the attempted attack on the Capitol.

This is something most Americans don't know, and one of the reasons why Dick Cheney should be prosecuted as a war criminal.

But back to Iran-Israel.

President Obama has said he is using every diplomatic solution to negotiate with Israel and Iran. We all know that Israel and Iran will never negotiate anything. Therefore, either Obama will support Israel when they do attack Iran, or warn them in no uncertain terms not to do so, at peril of losing US support.

I'm going for the first of those two choices.

I read something somewhere about America interfering with Iran back in the 50's or something. If what I read is true, I can understand, if some Iranians read the same thing, that they may not hold America in high regard.

I also read somewhere that the calls to wipe Israel off the map didn't literally mean using a nuclear weapon to obliterate the country of Israel. Something was lost in translation for some reason. It's hard for me to believe a country would persue such a suicidal act.

Surely the capabilities and makeup of weapons of mass destruction hasn't peaked so, short of wiping Iran off the map, "delaying actions" are only politically effective.
