Today, while taking my kids to their dad's for the weekend, we saw 2 Lewis County Sheriffs commit moving violations that if any of us did, we would have gotten a ticket. #1) While on I-5, cop was following now more than 2 feet behind another vehicle, who was going the speed limit. The officer kept creeping closer, then stepping on their breaks so as not to rear-end the car they were trying to force to speed up. "Move over" you say? Two problems, car on the right of him & car in front of him. Aggressive driving, wreckless driving.. cop or no, unsafe! And it's not the first time I've seen cops tailgate to force someone to freak out & speed up so they can write a ticket. #2) Just got off the freeway, another LCS flipped on his lights just long enough to blow through a red light, then as soon as they were through the intersection, turned off his lights and went merrily on his way down the road, not in pursuit, just bebopping away. Abuse of power at the very least.

In either of the cases you propose they would either not use the siren at all (if discretely following) or use it constantly (if in a rush to a crime scene.)
Cops do this all the time.
Speaking of police corruption, my small Ct town is out millions of taxpayer dollars because the corrupt police chief who was fired fought to retain his pension and the case was in court for years. Then a woman cop filed a lawsuit saying she was unjustly dismissed after she was fired supposedly for covering up crimes committed by her then boyfriend.

I see cops break traffic laws all the time.
Yeah, isn't that why people become cops? To blow through red lights and be able to speed and all that?
During the Roman fall they had gangs of thugs authorized by the plebs to force a physical response with the dregs of society so they could be disposed of without legal problems. It was the definition of a police state. The Crips and the Bloods are not what we (during the fall of western civilization) need to worry about. We have lost our peacekeepers and now have a fellowship of law enforcement. Pay heed as you know not what the bell calls for. We are being "manned".

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely .The temptation for cops with their power to break laws is great, most will do it at least in a minor way, running lights and parking where they like.
It is strange that our Police Commissioners have all been appointed by one political party an dismiss by another. Although we do not have elections for public servants here in Australia we have gone through a half a dozen police Commissioners in the past few years
Very few police live up to their pledged to serve others.
The 2010 House takeover by Republicans and the G.O.P. presidential primary has been enlightening, it appears that we now have a Washington DC that is quite frankly chock full of self-interested sugar daddies and wealthy cronies overwhelming the democratic process.
But on Monday, that light was turned on our Judicial system to reveal an equally disturbing state of affairs... On Monday, the court astoundingly ruled — 5 Republican appointees to 4 Democratic appointees — to give police carte blanche on strip-searches, even for minor offenses such as driving without a license or violating a leash law. Justice Stephen Breyer’s warning that wholesale strip-searches were “a serious affront to human dignity and to individual privacy” fell on deaf ears. So much for the conservatives’ obsession with “liberty.”

Liberty can mean the freedom to treat people as slaves or worse without the power of government interfering with this natural right of men to use their natural strength and compassionless abilities to pursue this benefit of human existence. Liberty is a natural right of those who can afford it and it's up to the individual to buy into that mindset or be left behind.
To the Christian, for example, believing he is absolved of all sin and has the promise of eternal life because God sacrificed his only son to that end, government intrusion, meant to limit his liberty to pursue the earthly pleasures of using ones power to screw with others, is just wrong.
