Here we go--the official Fool Moon presidential election topic.
Assuming the world doesn't end on 11/21/11 or 12/21/12 or any other date for that matter, let's discuss the nominations, the conventions, and the election.
At this moment, June 12, 2011 it's too early to call, but I think we'd all agree that Obama will be the Democratic nominee unless he's suddenly caught with Monica Lewinsky. I think he'll be nominated even if the economy is horrible, which I hope it is not.
I also think that given the Republican candidates currently visible, Romney will be the nominee. He might choose Herman Cain as his running mate.
But as I said, everything is still too early to call.
Now for some electioneering, I quote from Nicholas Kristof's NY Times column of June 4:
Quote:
"With Tea Party conservatives and many Republicans balking at raising the debt ceiling, let me offer them an example of a nation that lives up to their ideals.
It has among the lowest tax burdens of any major country: fewer than 2 percent of the people pay any taxes. Government is limited, so that burdensome regulations never kill jobs.
This society embraces traditional religious values and a conservative sensibility. Nobody minds school prayer, same-sex marriage isn’t imaginable, and criminals are never coddled.
The budget priority is a strong military, the nation’s most respected institution. When generals decide on a policy for, say, Afghanistan, politicians defer to them. Citizens are deeply patriotic, and nobody burns flags.
So what is this Republican Eden, this Utopia? Why, it’s Pakistan."
Michele Bachmann for President of Pakistan. Yayy!!
I predict more of the same electioneering. Way more. It'd be nice if Obama and Romney ran a clean campaign but they won't.
I still think we're going to go to the right this time. Not as far right as I originally thought, but right. If Palin runs, she'll suck away votes from Romney. She won't beat Obama.
As a matter of official record to here by be recorded upon the official Fool Moon presidential election topic Re: The 2012 Election, on this day, the 7th of June of the year two thousand and eleven, I do officially predict that Sarah Palin will not be elected the 45th President of these United States of America.

I agree, but that's like cassielA suggesting Farrakhan has some sort of special relationship with God because he (Farrakhan) said there would be bad weather in the USA.
I predict three things: 1. It will rain. 2. It will stop raining. 3. Sarah Palin will never be President of the USA.
"I think Romney is the best choice for us," former President Bush (#41) told the Texas newspaper. "I like Perry, but he doesn't seem to be going anywhere; he's not surging forward."
"I just think he's mature and reasonable - not a bomb-thrower, " Bush said about Mitt Romney. "Stability, experience, principles. He's a fine person."

Now in all fairness, he's not talking Gulf War III; just enough troops to keep Iran out. I don't know if that will be more or less than Obama sent to Uganda. Probably a least a few more, judging by the size of Iran's military.
No word on what Iraq thinks of the guv'nah's plan.
I think if the US has to fight in the ME again, it's best done from a submarine.

I'm right twice. It won't be Palin and it won't be Perry. The Texas Governor dropped out a few days ago. Wonder if he'll try for reelection here again.
