Colorado will require energy companies to disclose the concentrations of all chemicals in hydraulic fracturing and also ask drillers to make public some information about ingredients considered trade secrets.

Arkansas, Montana, Texas, and Wyoming all require companies to disclose the chemicals in fracking fluid but not their concentrations, said Matt Watson, senior energy policy manager for the Environmental Defense Fund. Louisiana and New Mexico only require disclosure of some chemicals deemed workplace hazards by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Other states, including Michigan and Pennsylvania, have proposed similar regulations.

Frack away I say. Pennsylvania is in the midst of a huge gas boom right now thanks to fracking. The steel industry is having a revival, truckers are trucking, pipelines are being built, and the hardy folk out in the western part of this expansive state have jobs again. Of course those frackers have little oversight from the state DEP or DNRP, but hell, if what they're saying about it bringing the state many billions of dollars is true, and it has the potential to lower my taxes, then I'm all for it.

This being Pennsylvania, the land of cronyism and corruption, I probably shouldn't get my hopes up on lower taxes. But a girl can dream, can't she?

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Two natural gas companies have agreed to temporarily suspend use of injection wells in central Arkansas where earthquakes keep occurring.

Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy and Clarita Operating of Little Rock told the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission on Friday that they've stopped operation of the wells near Greenbrier and Guy pending the panel's next regular meeting on March 29.

Clarita's parent company is True Energy Services of Ada, Okla.

The commission says there is likely a link between the wells and the earthquakes. There have been more than 800 quakes in the area in the past six months and a magnitude 4.7 quake – the strongest in Arkansas in 35 years – hit there Sunday.

The high-pressure wells are used to dispose of waste water from natural gas drilling.

And here I thought it was simply Ray bustin arse.

Watched more reports of this tonight happening in other areas where there were never earthquakes before.

Is it better monitoring or just bad choice of where the drilling is done? Hasn't fracking been going on since like...the 40's or something?

One has to question how severely we effect the planet with mining and dumping etc...

For my friends who decry government intervention in environmental matters, this is for you. Enjoy it with a glass of water....if there are still some potable supplies around.
