Helice - Wasn't he (Ventura) unpopular by the end of his stint as governor, though? Too liberal for some, too conservative for others, too crazy for almost all.
Wax- Doh! Oh no she didn't!!
Ventura was a lesson for a whole generation of college kids but they missed most of it of course. The same lesson could be stated to be learned by our current President who promised "change" and actually thought he could do it but then found out that the President of the United States doesn't actually run the country.
The system has become so corrupt that the figurehead that is "allowed" to be the spokesperson for State or country can't take a step without permission. We will be out of Iraq in six months... well... we are working on it... and I guess Guantanimo can't really be closed like I thought it could... and we will be increasing troops in Afghanistan. Did I mention "health care"?
I don't blame Obama because I saw the same thing way back to Reagan. The rulers of this country are not elected: they sit in the Pentagon often but most wouldn't be recognized on the street and names are... not something a paper would print twice! They decide what our dollar is worth and they know what will happen if any nation claims otherwise.
Back to Ventura he was refreshing because it took him so long to realize he wasn't in charge! He would make a statement like, "Prostitution is terrible because there is no protection for the worker. Because it is illegal pimps beat prostitutes and the prostitute can't report this behavior because they will be arrested for being who they are and before the pimp goes to trial she will be murdered and with no witness the charges will be dismissed. Nevada has had legal prostitution for many years but there has been alot of corruption involved. One benefit of decriminalization has been safety for the workers. We should look at what works and what doesn't before we make snap judgements concerning these things. Maybe there is something in between that would work"
The Papers of course declared, "Gov wants to legalize prostitution!!" In quoting him it looked something like this: "Because it is illegal they (prostitutes) will be arrested for being who they are... Nevada has had legal prostitution for many years... We should look at what works!" All factual of course, everything above the board right?
Ventura is no more "insane" than any of us, but he now has the only profile he can use because it was the only one reserved for him. If he is smart he will stay retired in Mexico.

Best Analysis of the situation....
Carlin was a visionary. Dax and I both admired the man for his vision as well as his comedy. Errr, you do realize that your choice of Carlin's word completely resonates with the things I said earlier, don't you...? If you were intending to demonstrate how you disagree with me by posting this clip of Carlin, I don't think you hit the target very well. I agree with everything he said in this short clip from one of his last appearances at the Beacon Theater (Dax and I once lived about 200 feet away from the Beacon -- a great venue). Are you under the impression that your clip in any way refutes my views? What you stated was designed to trash conservatives and place liberals on a pedestal. So yes, this does refute your views. No one in Washington gives a fluck about us. Obama doesn't give a fluck about us. Liberals are just as guilty of TOTAL BULLSHIT as any conservative.

I agree that politician in power are guilty of bullshit, regardless of what party they belong to.
What I said was that Republican espouse views that are pro-Big Biz and anti-little people, and the Dems espouse views that are pro-little people and anti-Big Biz, and given the choice of only these two, I'd have to go with Dems because at least they pay lip service to the people, and occasionally get something done against the mighty struggles of the Repubs, like health care reform.
They are all mostly full of crap, but when Republicans enact legislation, it benefits huge corporations at the expense of the people, and when Dems enact legislation, it benefits the poor at the expense of the rich. Dems = lesser of two evils.
