Cowardly Lion. When I said you need to oversome poverty to get education I was refering to the education of a large section oif the population not just the leaders. When you say You are referring to a situation where a few educated families run the country for their own benefit. I am not so familiar with this situation in Africa but know it exist in the Philippines.

There the wealthy families have run the country for years. It is the most corrupt country in the world. It has killed more journalists than any other country in the last year. Poverty has grown so much that the only hope of the poor is to work overseas and send their money back to support their families. Remissions from overseas in the main source of income for most people.

This may not be obvious in Africa. But in the early discussion we discuss large families, sexual exploitation and poor sexual practices all problems in Africa. Only education of these poor and middle class people can stop these practices. This can only be achieved if this people were not so poor so could not afford decent education.

That is certainly true.





This I do not believe but if you can show me some closer statistics then I will change my mind.

Cowardly Lion states I was referring to the fact that the Philippines was the most corrupt nation. I can not give stats as the word corrupt is a value judgment. However Philippines is near the top of most lists of corrupt countries. All Filipino newspapers list coruuption as the main problem. This was the slogan that the new president Aquino was elected. It was the reason his mother gave for here defeat of Marcos. Yet various members of the Marcos family were elected as congress members..

Arroyo the previous president was also elected to congress. The new Vice President comes from a different party. Many of the congress are former film stars including one who was put under house arrest for corruption.

The second point that more journalist were killed in the Philippines than any other country was a title of a current affairs TV program here a few months ago . I do not have a transcrip but I know it refers to 500 killed. Whether they were all journalist or kill under the orders of former President ARROyo I do not know.

I could discuss this in another post but its reference to the present discussion is that the Philippines have an educated elite and even a fairly well educated Middle Class. Yet despite this the poor are getting poorer. Neither the leaders or the middle class has much knowledge of the poor. This is why education of the leaders is not enough.
