"We are not here as an occupation force, but as an international partner committed to supporting the government of Haiti on the road to recovery," the U.S. government's Haiti Joint Information Center said in response to a query about the flag.
What query? There is no American flag flying at the US installation in Port-au-prince, Haiti. The Brits have theirs. The French have theirs too. But not the Americans.
Haitian prime minister, Jean-Max Bellerive, saw an American flag at the Haitian airport and told a US Ambassador that it looked like America had taken over the airport. Well, we kinda did. The US is handling the bulk of air traffic control, operations and logistics for Haiti's airport. The President Obama administration has approved the removal of the American flag.
I say we take down our support along with it.
