What's on your record? You can request it from the FBI. If there's something really secret on there, don't count on getting it. If what you want is your criminal history or to see if there are mistakes, like on mine, this is how you do it.
I know mine is messed up. Too many NICS gun checks have been denied and later approved or delayed without resolution for there not to be.
If you get denied on a NICS, you can find out why and either appeal or correct the issue and try again- if the issue is correctable. If you get delayed, they have so many days to decide yes or no and if they don't, you get your gun by default. Kind of like winning the game because the other team didn't show up.
My deal was there was an open warrant on me for failure to appear on a parking ticket that I thought the cop had thrown out. I mean, I gave the tow truck driver a $50 bribe convenience fee to let my car down. I guess he didn't share with the cop. That matter has since been resolved though. I paid the ticket.
Here's FBI the page with instructions.

If you want to call the FBI about this sort of thing, the number is 304-625-5590.
If you're having NICS issues, call NICS Information Customer Service 1-877-444-NICS (6427). Or use this page

We have a right to know these things. We also have the Privacy Act of 1974 so, don't call looking to get personal info over the phone. The FBI will want you to download a finger print card, have your prints taken (local PD is the best bet there) and sent in with your request.
