In a moment of conscious or subconscious candor, Lindsey said this about Sotomayor's controversial statement regarding Latinas...(you know the statement)

"Had I stated such," said Graham, "my career would have been over..." 

Placing aside Graham's subtle bashing of the soon to be Justice, we should instead analyze Graham's statement as to WHAT is WRONG with these politicians....

Graham's open admission that his tenure in the senate IS "a career".

You could see it as meaning his political career in its entirety, not necessarily just his senate tenure.

I think pols do consider government service a career.

What does the term 'career' politician mean other than a person who's chosen politics as her/his 'career?' Does that mean we, as the voting public, should 'get rid' of all career politicians?

Some are good. Most are, at best, highly influenced. No matter what, the 'gene pool' from which we can draw is very limited--to politicians who make politics their career. How can it be anything else?

Very often terrible people have exceptional political careers.
