I guess the fact that McCain wanted to avoid a debate with Obama, is also an attempt at a "tennis elbow", but of course the "tennis elbow" in that case was a sickening economy, which is a "tennis elbow" which symptoms arose, under the presidency of McCain's ideological bed-fellow. I guess McCain wants to look like the cure instead of part of the disease.

Really? And that's a "fact" you say? Is it as good as the fact that back in August John McCain publicly (that means there a record of it so I'm not just making this up) challenged Obama to a bunch of town hall debates to start right away and go right up until the election? Is it a fact like that?

Quote:

Really? McCain's "ideological bed-fellow" was president back in the 90s when Republicans first tried to raise the alarm about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Or when you talk about "bed-fellows," were you referring to Barney Frank and the "assistant director of product initiatives at Fannie Mae" he was screwing at the time Frank was on the Banking Committee, pushing Fannie Mae to loosen regulations on mortgages for two and three-family homes, even though they were defaulting at twice and five times the rate of single homes, respectively. The one who was at Fannie Mae when Republicans in Congress tried to tighten up lending institution regulations but were thwarted by Barney Frank? That bed-fellow?

After the next two debates, when all is said and done, it will be Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Minnesota who will give McCain thumbs up or thumbs down. If he wins all the states he is quite certain he will indeed win, then with these 3 states in his corner he will be within 10 electorial votes.... This is the unacceptable way that lets our outdated electoral college decide who gets the keys to the Oval Office.

We need popular vote for all elections so that your and my vote really count....

actually, pollsters have nevada, missouri, indiana, virginia and north carolina as the remaining (estimated) toss up states. And from what I know of north carolina and virginia they are just above or at, the margin of error in favor of Obama. And currently Obama leads the estimated electoral votes 264 to McCain's 174. Hence this negative attack push from the McCain camp.

I don't know if you watched any of the video from yesterday's events.. but I'm concerned .. one man yells in response to McCain's question of who is Obama.. 'a terrorist' and McCain pauses and goes on.. at Palin's rally yesterday one person shouts 'kill him' when Palin asks a question about Obama.. and the press was restricted at the Palin rally .. a public event, in a public place, of a public figure trying to win over the public.. when Palin whipped up anti-press sentiments about her poor interview performances, the press (safely roped off from the public) were turned on... so much for reaching across the aisle. When all you can do is whip your base into a hateful frenzy, all you get are a group of hateful, frenzied republicans.

McCain needs more than his base to win this election. And again, when your own campaign people leak strategy..

"It's a dangerous road, but we have no choice," a top McCain strategist told the Daily News. "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose."

It's a clear sign that the McCain campaign is unraveling. When you make an intentful decision to not speak about the issues.. and the economy is a must-address issue right now, it clearly shows how irrevelant John McCain is.

Spryte, Palin has not yet learned that there is a difference between a campaign stop and a debate. When you have an audience where the majority is on your side already, you get away with exaggerations and other nonsense. Yes, I did hear Mrs. Palin's spiel. She shouted out the same "rote memorized speech" at every gathering yesterday and the day before. ( ...if her batteries wear out, the McCain camp may be in trouble). She made an appearance Sun. in Carson, California. I assume the only reason either candidate from McCain's camp would step foot in California is to shore up some of the congress seats Republicans fear losing next month. There would be no other reason for her to be shouting such insanities...like that Madeline Albright quote.

My electoral map source is from Politico. It changes on an daily basis...and sometimes hourly!
Hey, just in - Obama is now ahead of McCain by 6 points in OHIO!

I would think that the secret service protecting Obama would be alarmed at a US Senator and US Gov inciting (by implication of being a terrorist) violence against another US Senator.

I heard Rep. Wasserman Schultz speak about where in Clearwater Fl, Palin was speaking (yesterday).. and she mentioned that Palin has only been speaking in the most conservative areas of Florida with a long reputation for voting republican. Now.. sadly... this surprised me a bit, in that.. it doesn't make sense. Unless the VP nominee is being used only in the capacity of shoring up the base.. but with a clear slipping in polls.. I would think, with my lack-of-anything-close-to-understanding-campaign-strategy that this doesn't do much to bring independents and others on the fence into the McCain camp..

Going to CA is about as good of choice as going to Nebraska.. although Nebraska shares it's electoral votes by districts, to me, these types of decisions are clear insights into the panic going on in the McCain campaign.

McCain's team should have studied Hillary Clinton's strategy which knocked her out of the running. Instead you find many similarities to her blunders and the end might well be the same.

(Bringing in Mrs. Palin as a running mate could only have been the idea of someone on whose toes McCain has stepped.)

Yes, McCain wanted to delay that debate because of this economic crisis, at least that's the reason he publicly gave. I would think that the voters would want to see a discussion between Obama and McCain on this issue and others, but that wasn't something McCain seemed to want. I guess that something about a public debate with Obama was making him nervous.

That bed-fellow?

I mean G. W. Bush, since the vast majority of McCain's votes in senate, support Bush, so obviously McCain is not the maverick he likes to paint himself to be.

Oh, I see. I'm sorry. I thought you said McCain wanted to "avoid" a debate. Now that I think about it, I could have sworn you said, "avoid" as opposed to "delay." I guess it's just semantics but to me "avoid" means not doing it at all. "Delay" means putting it off for a period of time. Using the word "avoid" seems to imply a reluctance to debate, with of course would be a silly thing to imply given McCain's previous challenge to Obama to do a whole lot of debating.

Delay and avoid point to the same thing in this case. McCain did not want a debate in which the people of the US would want to see some answer to the economic crisis; he does not have any answers since he is cut from the ideological cloth as the failure currently in the Oval Office.

Of course he was eager for debate in August, since at that time the economy wasn't in the depth of crises it is currently, and his choice for VP was not yet shown to be somewhat sub-par for that office.

McCain is on the back foot, and trailing Obama, so avoiding/delaying debate while increasing use of attack ads, might in his mind help slow down his losses.
