I've noticed that starting with the current financial crisis, when GWB speaks he appears distant, detatched and very weary.

I mentioned this in chat recently, and got no comment, but then I saw a few commentators on television say the same thing.

It isn't the kind of crisis-leadership I'd expect from a Chief Executive, although your opinion may differ.

Let's do some totally unprofessional analysis. What's wrong with this guy now? Is he defeated? Is he simply disassociaating himself from the current, almost unsolvable problems now plaguing us? Has he come to face the fact that his presidency was the most dismal failure in American history? Is he beginning to realize that history WON'T look kindly at him?

Or is he just a guy trying his best to do an impossible job that has finally overwhelmed him?

Bush is only a causer of problems not a solver of them. He is a divider of people not a uniter.

I am sure that even he knows that history will look on him and his time in office as being "dismal failure".

As he said, he is the "War President" so unless its the type of problem involving the expenditure of American lives or blowing things up, he finds himself stumped.

With never ending doomsday predictions (just like the pre Iraq invasion rhetoric) Bush got his way once more with the "bailout" crisis...

Maybe he is just tired. And maybe he wants to let McCain take the lead over the Republicans since he is the nominee. Bush may not be one of those presidents who thinks everything is about him. There is more to gain by stepping back some at this time.

I looked at two pics of Bush, one from 2000 and another recent one where he does indeed look very tired. I can see a positive point in the comparism of the two pictures. The last eight years took their toll on the man.... He has often been accused of not caring about the mess he made.

That second picture tells a different story. If there were not thousands of young American men and women who were sacrified for his mistakes, one could almost feel sorry for the guy who got pushed into a position he was not qualified for so that the monsters that surrounded him could play their destructive games.

I think the presidency would age anyone. It's such a stressful job one wonders why anyone would want it. And it really makes no difference if the job done is good, bad or indifferent.

Perhaps, Bush is as anxious for November to come as I am.

I think he's more afraid of what we'll find out after he's out of office that what we already know now, and that is he should have never been President in the first place.
