According to the UK publication MAIL ONLINE, "Islamic sharia law courts in Britain are exploiting a little-known legal clause to make their verdicts officially binding under UK law in cases including divorce, financial disputes and even domestic violence."
"Critics fear Britain's Islamic hard-liners will now try to make sharia law the dominant legal system in Muslim neighbourhoods, and warn that women often receive less favourable treatment at the hands of the traditional Islamic courts."
The problem was exacerbated when The Archbishop of Canterbury said that recognition of Sharia law seemed "unavoidable."
The Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips also backed Islamic courts to deal with Muslim family matters, marital and financial cases.
Is this the beginning of the end of the British legal system? Sharia courts have operated "unofficially" in the UK for years, but this is the first time there is a mixing of UK law and Sharia Muslim law.
What effect will this have on the British legal system?

I think this is a very frightening development. Or at least, if I was a Brit, steeped in centuries of British common law I'd certainly be rather concerned. I cannot fathom the advantage or desirability of creating separate islands of, often, divergent legal authority within the general society.

I suspect that this will be looked at very carefully, and the loophole closed up sharpish. As for Britain adopting Sharia law, it simply won't happen. At least, it won't be held as legally binding.
The thought of having one law for some and another for others is abhorrent, and I can't see the government getting such a thing to stick.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when a Muslim and a non Muslim go to court against one another.
This is a move to push the British into second class citizenship. Another frightful example of British dhimmitude. It's not the only one.
Muslims in Britain have objected to the use of dogs in police searches. British police have been advised to be sensitive to the Muslims and use dogs only when absolutely necessary. Even then, it will be required that the dogs be outfitted with rubber booties so as to minimize the filth spread by these unclean animals.
We see it in Scotland, too. In Tayside, Muslims made such a fuss over a black dog being pictured on police cards advertising the new department phone number that the shop keepers have refused to display the cards in their shops. The police department has since said that the cards were an oversight and did not intend to offend.
The sun is setting on Britain, to be replaced by a moon and star.

The British people should not stand for this pollution of their legal standards and subjugation of their evolved sense of ethical and moral standards.
Perhaps some type of "pound of flesh" type of law can be written up, where Shariah rulings can be legal but enforcing the judgment can have such serious legal consequences under British law, that these fundamentals have their bite removed.

This subject is extremely scary and it is something that WILL happen. It is all a matter of time. The British government has been too worried about being politically correct and is now in this situation with the muslim community increasing in power.
For all of those who think this is something that will blow over or it's nothing to worry about... Watch the documentary by Gert Wilder.!!

Welcome, HimeSama, yes it is scary and it's not something one would expect to 'blow over' and be done with in a few months time. Brits have traditionally been thought of as, perhaps, 'overly polite,' but no country can function with two sets of laws.
Do you think this may be a part of a 'peaceful' jihad?
