When I discovered that Karl Rove attended a conference in Yalta where also attending there was Saakashivil. Then, after a few days Georgia employees military force to stop a break - away province in Georgia that wanted to re-join Russia.....I knew that something wasn't right! It may be just coincidence. Perhaps Karl Rove summers in Yalta each year, and this conference was by chance. Put aside partisanship for a moment. When a guy like Rove, who is trying to get McCain elected, travels to Georgia to meet with the Georgia President and following the meeting that country decides to use military force, well something is rotten in Denmark! What is Rove thinking? McCain's chance for the White House will increase if there is another war the US is involved in? Yes, that is exactly what he thinks. Are we being dragged into a war with Russia just so another Rovian neo con can can be in the White House?? Yes. (Bush plans to place "missile shields" in Poland is equivalent to Russia placing the same in Mexico or Canada) Bear in mind the Russian forces are NOT the same as a rag-tag insurgency placing IED on roadsides...then running away fast! It doesn't matter. When McCain is President he will smash the Russian bear! Objectivity NEEDED! Object to Rove, McCain and Bush's belligerent attitude OR soon you will be repeating, "It was all a mistake!" (like Iraq). We're doing that now. The neo cons will go to great lengths to win the White House. Any lengths.

If Georgia had been a member of NATO, would the U.S. have been compelled to respond militarily under Article 5 of the Treaty? Are we really ready to go to war against Russia.
Here is what Obama and McCain have said regarding the current situation in Russia/Georgia: "The United States and our allies should continue efforts to bring a resolution before the UN Security Council condemning Russian aggression, noting the withdrawal of Georgian troops from South Ossetia, and calling for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Georgian territory." John McCain, August 11, 2008
"The United States, Europe and all other concerned countries must stand united in condemning this aggression, and seeking a peaceful resolution to this crisis. We should continue to push for a United Nations Security Council Resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence. This is a clear violation of the sovereignty and internationally recognized borders of Georgia - the UN must stand up for the sovereignty of its members, and peace in the world.
I welcome the visit of the French and Finnish foreign ministers to Georgia as a first step toward mediation. There should also be a United Nations mediator to address this crisis, and the United States should fully support this effort. We should also convene other international forums to condemn this aggression, to call for an immediate halt to the violence, and to review multilateral and bilateral arrangements with Russia - including Russia's interest in joining the World Trade Organization." Barack Obama, August 11, 200
Obama said we should review our agreements with Russia. Let's see what McCain said: "With the same aim, the U.S. should coordinate with our partners in Germany, France, and Britain, to seek an emergency meeting of the G-7 foreign ministers to discuss the current crisis." John McCain, August 11, 2008 Reviewing our agreements with Russia vs. "discussions." I'll go for review and you can stick with "discussions."
