I am sure many people all over the world have smiles on their faces after watching Usain Bolt showing the world what it's like to be god blessed. Usain Bolt has ensured that these Olympics will go down in history. Let's pray there are no illegal drugs involved. Who would have ever believed that you would have heard dance hall music from Jamaica in China.

I'm past my curfew, Cass, but I just watched the 100m I couldn't help but say that this moment is wonderful.

I watched that Bolt kid last night, the speed is crazy. I don't see anybody beating him for a while.

Bolt is fantastically quick, there can be no doubting that. I, too, hope that no PEDs are involved. Jamaica have done fantastically well in the sprints, with the women taking a 1-2-3 in their 100 metres.

That was already pretty assured, with Michael Phelps taking 8 golds in the Water Cube.

I read today that he would have been even faster had both his shoes been tied.

And, despite his posturing for the cameras before the race, his pride in Jamaica was certainly evident when he raised his country's flag over his head.

And even with the shoe thing he was impressive. Shutting things down early and still setting a world record in the 100 meter sprint final is just unheard of. Lightning Bolt is something special.

I agree, but he sure is full of himself. Confidence is key but give it a break, he was celebrating before he even crossed the finished line.

He's definitely very fast, so fast in fact he doesn't have to try hard but being arrogant just turned me off.

And I don't think the world saw 'magic'.

Great for Jamaica but I'm sure there are plenty of faster men running from police here in Detroit.

I thought that some people could have thought that he was being arrogant but you know black people when it comes to sport, dance and play, they sometimes like to try to be stylish. The world did see magic most people who saw Usain Bolt win the 100 metres could not believe their eyes, saying the same thing "Oh my god did you see that".

Hi Sleek and Lizbeth I agree Usain Bolt is super fast and he will not be beaten for years,as long as he stays fit.I think he may break the 200 metres world record we shall see.

Point taken but I would like to add that Michael Phelps is an outstanding athlete but he was only following in the footsteps of Mark Spitz another great athlete,Usain Bolt has done something that no other sprinter has ever done before, and it's the manner in which he did it,that's what marks out and makes his performance different and special.

I am also puzzled on what Bolt has done that no other spinter has done. It is true that he ran faster than other splinter. However the world record in most events has improved over time. Bolt 9.69 sec for the 100 metres is well below the previous world record. The 100 m was won in 10.3 in 1948 and 9.9 in 1988. I am not sure if he broke Michael johnson world record of 19.32sec for the 200 m. The event was late last night here and although I know he won I do not know the time.

I can remember the amazement in the 1950s when Landy and Bannister broke the 4 Minutes for the mile. Now it is common. The 1500 metres is now well below 4mins, 3.39 in 1976. In recent years the times for winning both the 100m and 1500 have gone up so sometimes it needs a great athelitc to bring it to a more realistic time.

We were discussing this topic of breaking records in chat the other evening, and I made the point that although records are "made to be broken" there eventually must be a final, all-time record which nobody beats.

There is a four minute mile, there might be a three minute mile, but there will never be a ten second mile. So somewhere between the three minute mile and the ten second mile, we reach a time that will be unbeatable.

I agree Dax unless man learns to fly we can not have a ten second mile. I did see last night that Bolt broke the world record in the 200 metres. So he has a claim to fame from these Games. He was quoted in our newspapers as wanting to break the record at the Olympics as the Beijing track was very fast.
It is these factors that make it hard to compare sa with Jessie Owens who won the 100 and 200 metres in 1936 or G. valenty Bozov (USSR) who won the double in 1972.

Usian Bolt is the 8th person to complete the Olympic sprint double. I doubt, although I can't be sure, that others before him have broken both records at the same games. That is only two golds.

Phelps won 8 gold medals, and set 7 world records while doing it. Can you point to anyone that has ever done that before?

True, Spitz had a similiar Olympic record, but Phelps took it one stage further. Usain Bolt has only equalled what others have done (although admittedly very, very quickly).

Can't we give Cassie a break, folks? He celebrates the fact that a 'black' man won gold.

Cass, over the years lots of black people have won in the Olympics--both men and women--and from a lot of different countries--white people from Africa and black people from the US.

Please, give your racism a rest for a while. Please.

I am sorry if you and others thought I was being racist I was not even trying to be funny.A famous American athlete who covers athletics for the BBC called Michael Johnson went berserk when Usain Bolt ran the 100 meters he said that he has never seen anybody shut down at 90 metres in a race. That's all I was saying,it was an amazing thing to see.I am not a racist and never will be sorry if I caused you any offence.

Don't worry Cass, I didn't see you being racist. Maybe you, just like many others, knew he was going to break the record. I saw the 200 meter race. I saw both actually, but I saw him blast the 200. I was glad in that race that he didn't show-off like in the 100. Bolt is a very fast man. I wonder how long before someone breaks his records? 30 years? 15?

I don't think you're racist Cass, not at all. I see a lot of pride and what's wrong with that?

I see nothing wrong with being pro-black,pro-white,pro-asian, etc., as long as we're not anti against anyone else.

I am happy that Bolt is black but more important he did not come from the USA.
Our greatest Atheltics in 2000 was Cathy Freeman an aboriginal. Her colour did not matter she was Australian.
About who else won the 100 and 200 m double I should have mentioned Carl Lewis in 1984. He won the 100m again in 1988 when there was no boycott.
The only World Recods before now in these events were Hayes in 1964
and Hines 1n 1968 in the 100.Livito Beruti in 1960 and Tommie Smith in 1968 in the 200. None of these won both events so I suppose that makes Bolt unique.

And I apologize to you, Cass.

It's sometimes difficult to correctly interpret someone's written words without the impressions given by earlier and dissimilar posts.

You have a great deal of pride in the color of your skin. When you use that pride to use words such as 'knee-gro' in your comments about how white people have mis-used black people throughout history, it sounds like a kind of racism to me.

Asain Bolt and the rest of the Jamaican crew can celebrate now. They owned the track this Olympics. Bolt got the gold and World record in the 100 meter, the 200 meter and the team got the gold and world record in the 4X400 meter relay. Good Job.

No problem, apology accepted.Don't get all worked up about the word "knee-grow" when I am using that word it usually means I am being serious, but with a smile on my face.

Hello defian most Jamaicans that I meet are proud as hell,I just pray that this young man makes the most of this opportunity in life and doesn't waste it.Usain Bolt should be used as a catalyst in Jamaica to try to uplift the Island because it has a lot of problems.
