Yes Dax, it comes down to definitions. Ray is correct about the original definition. When you live in rural areas or farm you tend to work outdoors and get your neck sunburned to a nice shade of red on a regular basis. The word got twisted about as much as the word gay so your definition is also correct these days.

...as they knew well in ancient Rome, judging from the Latin word "rubor", which translates exactly as "red neck", and was used by Latin-speakers in the same sense as "back-woods no-nothing hick". smile The word "rubor" was used in comedies as a proper name, and comes down to use through permutations of language as ""Rubor", "Rubio", "Rufio" in Shakespere, "Rufius", and more modernly "Rufus", in extremely rural areas of the US. It is the root of the word "ruffian".

The word "rubor" persists today as a medical jargon for "red skin".

And that, Jo, is why Rednecks were called Rednecks--But, wait, there's more--for just $19.99 plus shipping and handling, you'll also get ...

There's more to Redneck. They were tenant farmers working beside freed slaves. Their sunburned napes gave them status over the black tenant farmers who didn't show their sunburn.

But "blacks" still felt sunburn since so much of their 'blood' was 'diluted' with 'white' blood.

What some people call 'Trailor Trash' is, perhaps, another misnomer.

And in the word "rube" meaning hick or yokel.

LMAO! Keep on Laughing Ray, it's good to see you and LM find humor in people getting shot for nothing and as usual you don't have a solution yourselves, but that what I expect from your ilk, you cause the problems, don't have solutions, but you leave everybody else to clean up the mess, lol.

As usual, you've managed to miss the point entirely. Our laughter was based on your side-splitting...

...and my first thought was, "Hell! Lawmage has used up a case of "D" cell batteries shining a light on you and it hasn't seemed to help one iota."

But I didn't say it. Instead I merely nudged Lawmage so we could share the giggle. But as you can see, I changed my mind due to the fact that, as I said before, you completely missed the point. We aren't laughing at physically dead people. We're laughing at the intellectually dead.

Here, watch:

Indeed, Ray...SPM, your observations on the topic at hand are so profoundly ignorant as to require us to either laugh or cry. Personally, I elect to laugh at the repeatedly foolishness you display less the tears become uncontrollable and I be forced to forsake all hope in the future of Mankind.

Have we come any closer to learning why the shooter shot the victim?

Lol, Ray I think it's kind of funny the way you take one thing and try to make a case out of it. You and LM are alway's grabbing at straws.

Some people are ignorant so they don't know, but some people embrace ignorance ( like someone who I will not name ), they don't know and don't want to know anything except for their own stupid ways ( I won't say you, lol.) but it's okay, I'm glad I gave you something to be happy about. wink

Anyway back to the subject, I bet we'll find some sort stupid reason this idiot decided to kill an innocent man.

You're probably right about that. Or at least, the killer's reasons might seem "stupid" to us, while at the same time, making perfect sense to the killer. People rarely if ever do things for reasons that are irrational to themselves. Or as a poli-sci professor said in a class I took, "Adolf Hitler didn't see himself as being evil. He saw himself as the 'good guy.'"
