I'm trying to burn a video on a DVD and I always get the message "The disc is not supported". I'm using Intervideo WinDVD creator and it always worked. I used that kind of DVD brand before and never had any problems. So I thought it was the program and downloaded another one. But the other one tells me that there is no disc in the drive.

What is going on? Why can I burn music discs but no DVD discs?

Have you tried a different disc? It could be the DVD is damaged. Also look and see if there's any updated drivers for your drive.

yes I did try a different disc, also tried a different brand but it didn't work.

Whoever manufactured your laptop should have system drivers available for download. So if it's a Lenovo or a Dell, just go to their website and look under the Support/Downloads section.

It probably won't work, but it's worth a try.

I'm having computer DVD issues as well. I have a set of DVD's made by a friend...that I need to watch. I load them in (Mac 10.3.9 panther) and NOT PERMITTED comes up when I try to play them. The help guide instructs says:

You may see a "Not Permitted" message if you try to access a movie's menus during the presentation of trademark and copyright notices. If you see this message, wait until the movie is playing and try again.

If the movie is playing and you see this message, you may not be able to use a feature at that particular time in the movie.

ok...so I have waited until hell freezes over....

Now I test a few other DVD's I know have always run, and same thing happens. I test a few more, these are ok...

I have searched online for an answer to this...and have only found the same question I have, no answers?

There is a section of the DVD, which loads at the start of the disc, where you cannot skip to the next section. This special section is there to display FBI warning about the terrible things that happen to you if you attempt to harm the movie industry multi-billion dollar industry by copying the DVD. Although this section is supposed to be used only for this warning, some companies put things like advertising in such sections, so that you become a captive audience while you watch the preview for their next animated bunny movie.

If a DVD is having issues like those you described, I am guessing it is with this section of DVD, or perhaps with some strange interaction between the anti-pirating/anti-copying format of the DVD and the software you use to play the DVD. Try other DVD/video media player software, try updating the DVD drivers, and if all that does not help, then perhaps the issue is with the DVD playing hardware in the drive itself.

I just noticed that my DVD drive isn't playing DVD's no longer. I can't play DVD's or burn them. I can burn and listen to CD's though.

What exactly does that mean? And what can I do against it?
