Let me add to Aint's comments.
The company that i worked for (for 45 years) has facilities spread all around the Puget Sound Region. They are considered to be "local". It is common to be transferred between "local" plants as the company's needs change. I've worked at most of them at one time or another. This is not unusual for a great many employers, including my wife's.
Do you really expect us to move every time we get reassigned? In the case of working couples, should we each move to an apartment near our work and just meet on weekends?
My solution was to live at the geometric center, so that our average commute, no matter where assigned, was at least not terribly unreasonable.
One consequence, however, is that my mandatory auto insurance (rates are adjusted by commute distance) is somewhat lower since I never had to commute 50 miles each way, as some disgruntled folks have had to do. (Just to stay on topic.)
