As Stanley Kubrick said, "I would not think of quarreling with your interpretation nor offering any other, as I have found it always the best policy to allow the film to speak for itself."

Watch and listen to whatever you wish LM, I can't stop you... grin

And, Ray, the devalued dollar and the high energy costs are ALL factors that find their source in this horrible war...The high deficits form our constant borrowing and the run-amok derugalations that preceded Bush, have also contributed to the malaise (as Carter called it and got slammed for it)... I fully agree that "recession" takes on different definitions...and, for the layman, nothing will appease him/her when facing high food costs and possible foreclosures.

Not getting off so easy, CG. For the record, I do not listen to Rush Limbaugh as I find the man to be an asinine blowhard. My own tastes run more toward Coast to Coast when I listen to talk radio. On the other hand, your comments are typical elitist liberal bullshit and I am not willing to allow them to pass unchallenged. Why is it that people like you are free to call Limbaugh's audience moronic and it largely passes unremarked? Its a hypocritical double standard of the worst sort and it typifies what is so damn vile about you people on the left. I think Ray is largely correct. You guys only support freedom of speech if the speech is what you want to hear.

Somebody should tell Rush that fantasy movies always do well in a recession or depression.

Apparently rather expensive high-tech toys do well, too, since Limbaugh also revealed the new I-phones are sold out. The latest figures show the economy shrunk by 5%, unemployment is at 11% and interest rates are at 20%.

Oh wait, sorry. That was back in 1980 during a REAL recession. Never mind.

They were selling yachts in the great depression too. People with real money don't lose it to economic forces, and for the very rich a depression means only one thing--lower prices for them.

So much of the stock market and other financial playgrounds is based on pyschology, it's difficult to know if real economic factors are involved. Since nobody in the world, especially Economists, understands economics, it's always a crapshoot.

There are some technical things that have to be in place to have a "legitimate" recession, you are correct in suggesting that the country is not officially in a recession. But it's like telling a dying man he doesn't have lung cancer, he's only dying of leukemia.

Things are financially bad in this country right now, the sales of the new I-phones notwithstanding. They are purchased mostly by young upper-income techies or show-biz types, you aren't going to see long lines to buy the i-phones in most neighborhoods of most towns.

But Limbaugh's point that the recession is disproved by the movie and i-phone is just wrong.

Call me a moronic elitist liberal for listening to George Noory... I can take the punches". "The program about Bush and the alien" was my favorite topic....

Part of the problem in waiting until a recession is "official" is that the official definition is two quarters in a row. Then add on another month for the crunching of data and you have about seven months before an official recognition of economic disaster is admitted. I think just taking a poll of what people perceive is better--and we all know what that perception is. "Not officaly in a recession" is simply mealy-mouthed spin.

In te meantime, we have 2nd and 3rd qaurter losses (if you take Jan. losses into account,) a cut-back in some dividends and cutbacks in jobs.

What is the definition of a recession, again?

I see. And what would "Not a single month, much less in entire quarter at negative productivity" be? Is that just "mealy-mouthed spin" or is that just one more inconvenient truth the economic Chicken Littles refuse to acknowledge?

I agree. I think I'll poll a bunch of 4-year-olds to ascertain the existence of Santa Claus.

The President and his supporters will never admit to a recession. So denial is their tool of choice.

But the proof is all over the Country and the people know it,so they can't deny it any longer, so basically the President and his supporters are lying to themselves in their own little world, and that's sad and a shame.
