Once more, the saga of Brett Favre's retirement has taken another twist.

In recent weeks, there has been speculation that the future Hall of Famer may come out of retirement for one more season, although not with the Green Bay Packers. This past Friday, however, the ruours moved on to say that Favre has asked Green Bay to release him from his contract.

The Packers have refused his request. However, they have told him he will be welcome back at Lambeau Field next season, although the 38-year old would not be the starting quarterback.

Will Favre return? If I'm honest, given the Packer's refusal to release him, I seriously doubt it. Someone like Favre does not belong on the bench. His time to walk away has come, and I just don't think he has quite realsied it yet.

I'm sure the Packers have thought, "Hell! YOU said you wanted to retire so we went ahead and decided to plan our future sans Favre. NOW you say you want to come back after we've already put a lot of time and effort into your replacement."

The Packers are in a situation where if they simply release Favre, he might turn around and go to some team like the Vikings or the Bears, direct competitors of the Packers in the same division. Wouldn't THAT piss 'em off! So the only way the Packers can control their own destinies is to put Favre on the bench OR trade him, but only to the team of which they approve as well as Favre.

Brett Farve in my oppinion is overated. His stats the past nine years (Except for last year) have been terrible, also he has thrown a ton of interceptions ( Most ever), which killed the Packers Super Bowl chances last year.

Brett Farve is a Football Diva, and he should quit while he's ahead.

I say that if Favre doesn't want to be with the Packers anymore, they should just let him go. If someone else wants him, then let them have him. This "He's our property!" is so stupid.

SPM, I believe Favre is still a better quarterback now then most of the new ones and was in his bad years. I'm just curious how you figure Favre is a diva?

Well deifan, before Farve retired last year, he would play this should I retire or not at the end of every season, for the last four or five years, keeping the management and the fans waiting on him to see what he was going to do. I think he gets a kick out of having people hold their breathe to see whether or not he's going to retire every year, but last year he finally did, then all of a sudden he thinks he can just comeback after the Packers made plans without him, and they are supposed to just make room for him?

I just find it kind of selfish of him.

I don't think Green Back have any obligation to simply release Favre. Looking at it from the Packer's perspective, Favre is an asset who, if he returns, will bring with him quite a bit of trade value. It is ludicrous to expect the Packers to pass up on the value.

Why give away something when you can get quite a lot in return?

Finally, the saga of Favre's return is over. Having been reinstated by the League last week, Green Bay finalised a trade deal early Thursday which will see Favre move to the New York Jets.

In exchange for Favre, the Jets have traded a 4th round draft pick. If Favre plays 50% of games this year, it moves up to a 3rd round pick, 70% and the Jets make the play-offs it becomes a 2nd round pick, and a 1st rounder is he plays 80% and they make the Super Bowl.

Should the Jets trade Favre to the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay will receive THREE (3) first round picks from the Jets.

This is just in time. The last thing teams need is such doubt about playing staff this close to the start of the season. Of course, the biggest winner in all this is Aaron Rodgers, who will finally know he is the starter in Green Bay.

He forced the Packers to trade him. He had a great season but I wish he'd just retire already.

The Jets move was interesting though, as Pennington really isn't a very good starting QB. I have a feeling the Jets will trade Favre away before the beginning of the season though.

To be honest, I just don't think he ever wanted to retire. However, the team needed toknow early so they could plan ahead, and he was forced into making a decision before he was ready to.

What I want to know is, why is his name spelled Favre and pronounced Farve?

He is part French and Choctaw so maybe the reason for the pronunciation lies in the origin.

I think he wanted to retire at the top. He just wanted to retire for the wrong reason. He changed his mind and came back. He almost ruined the Packer's season doing it so I am glad he is in New York.

Within a day of Brett Favre's arrival in New York, Chad Pennington signed for the Miami Dolphins after being released by the Jets.
