Aus22: Drink CUB beer. I understand its the main beer at Yankee Stadium.
It's made by Foster's, arguably the worst beer in a country usually known for excellent beer.
liz:There are several definitions of New World Order
And all of them are pie in the sky sloganeering statements. Like "the war on terror" it allows those who employ it to mean anything they want it to mean.
However, if what people are looking for is truly a "new world order" it would have to be a world where the US is not the leader of the free world. THAT would truly be a new world order, and something most Americans probably don't want, no matter how high the price of gas goes.
However if one is a neocon, for example, and Mexico says "Let us take over, we'll
lower your taxes then I have a feeling there are some of us who'd have their personal assistants start teaching them Spanish
Ray: Does it ever occur to anyone that when today's national leaders get a tear in their eye and talk about the "New World Order" that is just around the corner, that they aren't talking about the expectation of an actual tangible governmental structure? Could it be that they are merely indulging in some philosophical/allegorical musings revolving around the desire for improved international understanding and cooperation for the betterment of humanity?
That would be nice, in which case the phrase itself becomes useless and meaningless. New World Order doesn't impose itself. It demands conquest.
Ray:Just as when Ronald Reagan referred to the "Shining City on the Hill" he wasn't talking about wrapping Denver, Colorado in aluminum foil on a cloudless sunny day. He was talking of restoring Americato a position of respect and influence in world affairs as well as economic and social health internally.
Reagan, for all my criticism of his presidency, actually did try to approach that goal. He failed, but not because of poor leadership. However, "shining city on a hill" is just an empty, emotional phrase like "morning in America." Meaningless.
Ray: You suppose that latter day references to a "New World Order" is just a world leader's way of engaging in a hand-holding chorus of "Kumbaya?"
Yes of course. Either that or a Bush monarchy. What did you think it meant, equality and freedom? Your liberties are being eroded on a daily basis via The Administration and a chickenshit Congress. Do you see much equality and freedom in this country today? We are still the country with the most freedoms on earth, but without our vigilance, which I don't see much of, that's gonna change.
