Dax, I gotta call bullshit. Why should Obama not face the same sort of treatment Bush faced. He was pretty much called racist...its a favorite tactic for Dems to call republicans racist. Hell, you yourself suggested the political right in America is nothing but a bunch of jackbooted racist thugs. I think Ray is spot on...the first time someone launches an attack on an Obama policy--assuming he wins the election--the Left will scream about the racial motivations behind the attack. In fact, I predict we will see it take place right here on Fool Moon.

That's a pretty easy prediction to make. Someone calling racially motivated remarks racially motivated. Or are you predicting there will be no racial motivation involved in the first attack on an Obama policy? What kind of attack do you predict?

Racism is ugly and venomous and, to me, so are racists. That's what frightens me. If Obaba is elected, he may turn out to be the best president since Abraham Lincoln, but his abiilities probably won't be recognized because of the color of his skin.

It frightens me because I feel there are many more 'closet' racists than a lot of Americans admit and it'll all come out with an Obama win.

It has nothing to do with how Mr. Bush has been characterized, Law. It has to do with the visceral feeling that is racism.

Liz, if Obama is elected, racism will not stop him fro achieving any of his goals. Only Congress can do that.

Sure there will be racist jokes and all of that, but no policy decisions will suffer because of his race.

Race jokes will no more stand in the way of Obama's leadership than dumb jokes stood in the way of Bush.

I did no such thing, I pointed out (this is the second time I've had to tell you this) that organized racists in America tend to be, in fact are, right wing.


The far left will scream about that. The left and Democrats will more likely deal with the facts.

And calling someone, or anyone, a racist absent racism in the individual is unlikely to change many minds.

I truely hope so Dax, for the sake of the country.

Many people think Rev Wright is a racist. Many think Limbaugh and the entire neocon panoply are. So what? It really doesn't change anything.

Years ago Lenny Bruce said that the civil rights movement had changed things in this country so that now even the grossest and most gauche individuals know that they should no longer use the N word in public.

So the racism becomes more subtle, but no harder to spot.
