An upcoming edition of the New York Times Magazine this weekend will announce that syndicated radio host, Rush Limbaugh has just resigned his contract with "Clear Channel" and "Premiere Radio through 2016. Limbaugh's show has been described as "the most lucrative hours since radio's inception."

According to some radio insiders, this new package is valued at over $400 million, while NY Times Magazine is reportedly going to reveal that Limbaugh is making an estimated $38 million a year.

His earnings now pace him ahead of the annual salaries for network news anchors Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer — combined!

I guess I could draw a connection between the high popularity of Limbaughs show and the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute". It would be ok if people just looked at his garbage as pure entertainment, but unfortunately a lot of suckers actually believe what he says.

Im not foaming. I am not surprised by his popularity. I am no longer surprised by what people believe to be true. Limbaugh supplies some people with an essential part of their daily fantasy, and I am sure reality would start to leak into their cranial cavity if it were not for his guiding hand.

I am fairly sure that whoever is footing the bill to pay this bloviator, has long figured out that the next 8 years of democrat dominance in government, that Rush will have much to bitch about and garner the audience of dejected neocons to support his constant bitching.

I am not sure that they will be dominant, or at least that they will be dominant enough to undo the damage done under Bush. I wish them luck.

I actually think that Rush is "smart" enough to be secretely laughing at his listeners for taking him seriously and being sooooo gullible.

Why don't you try actually listening to his show a few times, Cy_Click, and decide for yourself from a position of experience. Hell, most of you here think democracy is such a great thing...You lot seem to think what the majority wants is right...Given the enormous size of Rush's fan base perhaps it is time you guys just conceded that he is right and you are wrong.

Well let me help you out there. I know, for instance, that General Motors is "footing the bill" along with an online backup service called Carbonite.com (I myself use Carbonite.com's services after learning about them on the Rush Limbaugh show.)

Those are a couple of the national companies who "foot the bill" but then there are lots of local companies around the country like Gilbert Realty right here in Mountain Home, Arkansas and Carters Jewel Chest which is just a couple miles down the road from me. They buy advertising on the Rush Limbaugh Show as it is broadcast on the local talk radio station.

THOSE are some of the people who are "footing the bill" to keep Rush Limbaugh on the air. Interestingly, unlike with the left-wing Air America, there's not a "George Soros" in sight.

Is his fan base as enormous as his claims? Are they all in agreement with him. I saw a study that said liberals will listen to conservative talk but conservatives won't listen to liberal talk. Seems to me his listeners are not all on the band wagon. He is entertainment you know.

I think I have posted here before about the different type of thought process involved in liberals and conservatives. It is is not lack of intelligence in conservatives thats the problem, but their strong desire for black and white solutions and the blindness/rigidity that inflicts on them. I could repost again, but its more of a science forum topic I think.

Poorly chosen comments perhaps, but hit a nerve on some people I guess, so there probably is a element of reality to it within certain sections of society.

I could remark that the society that conservatives want, looks more like the Soviet Union than anything a liberal would want. A dogmatic ideology, strong leader to instill a herd instinct attitude in the flock, black and white world view; those things appeal to many conservatives. If one replaced five year plans with corporate welfare, then you basically have transformed Stalinism into Neoconservatism.
