Myrddin..I, on the other hand, am always interested in the opinions of those that are neither a US citizen nor a resident of my nation on any subject. Outside opinions about the US and its leadership can be quite revealing and can be contrasted with what we hear in our own media. I'm not afraid of conflicting opinions and am interested in news that doesn't seem to make it into our news media in a timely fashion: Al-Jakeera, English is in my bookmarks and it is consulted if not regularly at least frequently.

Perhaps it would assuage Lawmage if you were to put your specific location on Earth under your Posting Icon?

Ah, but Law, what the Supreme Court held in this case, as well as in the others, were the Administration's policies as regards the prisoners currently detained in Gitmo and in other "detention camps."

You and Ray have both studied history and you both know that history is movement leading up to, and following, a given point in time. The syllabus gave the background that led to the Court's decision, just as what we've learned recently regarding the events of the time and the innerworkings of the Administration led to the laws enacted by Congress. Those laws are now being held unconstitutional.

I totally agree with Lawmage!

America, love it or leave it.

That's right, if you don't like the way the country is being run (not you personally) just get out, just take your little Commie flag and move to Canada or somewhere else that has socialized medicine and don't bother us US citizens who know what we are doing.

And if you live abroad, who do you think you are paricipating in a discussion board that is American based? What the hell are you doing here? This is America, land of the free, so get the hell out!

Oh, you're already out? Well then you'd better learn a lot more about America than you already know if you want to criticize us, Buster. That's right.

I remember once I was yelling at a Puerto Rican guy who was bothering me by walking down MY street, and he turned around and said "Screw you, maricon!

I stood up to him and said "That's right, I'm an American. That's more than I can say for YOU, champ."

Well, that got him so mad he started laughing.

So my point is, if you don't live here, shut the hell up, you probably can't speak good English anyway.

Signed,

A True American.

Myrddin...if you want to continue to attack my nation

I have not attacked your nation, I am expressing disagreement with your current leadership.

Quote:

and its leadership

Of course, I reserve the right to criticise anybody. The next time somebody who is not an elitist, incompetent, arrogant warmonger is in US presidential office, I am sure I will find them praiseworthy.

Quote:

perhaps it is time to attack ireland and its leadership.

Go ahead, if the criticisms are valid, I might well agree with you.

Quote:

Shall we discuss Ireland's lack of real religious freedoms?

Of course you can. There is lack of real religious freedom in the US also, but that is not the fault of your founding fathers.

Quote:

Its impositions on the beliefs of others?

Again, go ahead. You will either suffer my agreement or disagreement and your reaction to either one won't affect the dosage I will supply.

Quote:

its former support for terrorists in northern Ireland?

Go ahead, no topic is anathema for me.

Quote:

In short, i am rather tired of listening to your crap about my country and its leadership.

Lawmage, my main issue is with your leadership. You have often seemed to be strongly libertarian in the past, and expressed a distrust of government, so I excuse me if I see hypocrisy in you supporting a government which seems to want the opposite of liberty or freedom. They have even misapplied the word freedom to support their various schemes. Who are the sheep really, the conservatives or the liberals? I must say, it is the conservatives which bleat the most.

Quote:

You are neither a US citizen nor a resident of my nation and your opinion about it and its leadership is worth exactly nothing...

Well Lawmage, I am a private person so I don't usually like to reveal too much about myself, but you are very wrong on one point. I am a legal resident of your country, and therefore its welfare and the welfare of those I have grown to call friends and family is my concern. Your declaration of independence was an inspiration for similar documents in other countries who also feel in love with the power of the ideas behind it. My own country men have shed blood for such ideals so I do not look at ideas like "liberty" in a casual fashion. I will express my views as I see fit,and your views on its validity or invalidity will not silence me.

Bullshit, Myrddin. Here is what prompted my comments:

Quote:
Also from Myrddin:I can understand why somebody would confuse any policy reducing human or individual rights with (un)official Bush policy , since those things are often one and the same.
That is nothing other than an attack. An undeserved and untrue one at that. You have made similar unsupported and undeserved attacks in a host of threads where they were completely irrelevant or at best only marginally relevant to the topic. In short, you have been following the lead of Dax in your incessant attacks. Dax at least is an American with a vested interest. You are little better than a monkey in the zoo who throws shit because the other monkeys are doing it.

Actually I think Myr makes valid points. He suggests that under President Bush our liberties have been reduced.

You may argue the point, but I think you'll be unable to point out any ways in which our liberties have increased since 2001.

Suggesting that a longtime member and moderator here is little better than a monkey is uncalled for.

Whatever, Dax...twist what I said all you like, my complaint remains valid. If it bothers you that much...

That's an interesting statement. I'm wracking my brain, but I simply can't recall who it was who put forth that argument. Can anyone refresh my memory?

I too am curious, Ray...Lets twist it a little. Dax, can you explain exactly how your personal individual liberties have been eroded under Bush? Something specific you used to be able to do but cannot do now?
