Welcome to Fool Moon Charlotte. I enjoy watching your tricks. You both must be in great shape to do many of the tricks. How much effort goes into keeping yourselves in shape?

Thank you Dax, Ray and Jokul... and a special thanks to Helice and Dax for inviting me. I am now a Fool Moon addict, since reading many of your posts.
To answer your question Jokul..yes staying in shape is "part" of the job. I studied ballet with Eugene Loring. He told us to sit in front of the mirror undressed and just stare at ourselves... I guess we all looked like in his words, a bunch of fat race horses.. I work out once a day... Usually pilates and aerobics, elliptic machine these days because of a bad knee.
Welcome Charlotte. I enjoy magic, especially the fact that as adults, we all know that it is illusion. The fascination for me is in the trying to discover just HOW that happened!
I don't think that we get your show here in Australia.
Are there any links that show some examples of your work? It would be nice for us 'foreigners' to have an idea before the chat.
Once again, Welcome!

I just finished watching the Midsummer's Night Levitation that's up on Youtube. You're both extremely elegant and I was quite impressed.
I also read on Wikipedia that Jonathan had a pretty serious accident practicing one of your magic tricks a few years back. Does that type of thing happen often?

Thank you Stone, that particular piece was filmed in Paris for a world wide special we starred called Disney's Night of Magic. Yes, you can search You Tube... add our name plus metamorphosis and levitation, sawing in half..etc.
If you search My Space, look at Jonathan's his has all the videos.. I think my own My Space is easier to find, ..then you can easily link to his by clicking his pic.
To answer your question Stone..hmmmm.. I will be honest, I haven't read the wikipedia entry! I guess I will have to join and perhaps do a little editing.. I notice it is in serious need of an update. Yes, Jonathan had a few serious accidents, including one about one and a hlf years ago invloving running into an arrow, which pierced his heart! More later on it...but yes accidents do happen. Funny as it is, he was a stuntman for most of his early adult life, and was never injured. Now, as a magician he is accident prone. Probably Houdini cursing us??
First, America's Got Talent, is a Reality Show. It is a reality contest show. It is regulated by the FCC and rules governing TV contests. The added twist of "reality" makes shows like these a category all of it's own. Reality Shows depend on the TV viewers emotional reaction to a decision by the producers and or judges. This is not an athletic contest, with a set of guidelines established how a judge might choose one gymnast over another. It is very subjective.
To give you a bit of an idea how contestants a finally chosen for games. My brother in law auditioned for Jeopardy. He became a finalist, but was passed over because he did not look the part. The final decision (who makes it on the show, and who doesn't) is really a casting decision. The same for shows like American Idol and AGT.
I can answer many of your questions, but I am bound by a contract with he producers that restricts me from discussing intimate details of the show. I can talk about shows that are public domain. The show airing June 17 will be public domain after it airs. I can not talk about future episodes coming in the summer months.
Why did we decide to be on AGT? For the very simple reason Reality TV is the ONLY avenue available to variety artists, and other entertainers as well. AGT and American Idol is seen by over 13 million viewers every week. These numbers are huge! All this translates into been seen, hence adding to good old American capitalism, more career opportunities, more money and therefore more spending power..so I can spend all my money like George Bush instructed me. All for the good of the nation.

DrGrimm,
Fabulous to hear you'll be joining us! You can see the Pendragons tonight on America's Got Talent, of course, and if you'd like to attend Charlotte's special chat, you'll also want to come in WEDNESDAY night at 10pm Eastern, 7pm Pacific time. .
Hope to see you there!

Don't go here, Chsrlotte:

It'll open you up to too many things that don't relate to illusion--or--forget it.
I have trouble getting into chat, so I'll ask you these here. How much gymnastics training have you and Jonathon had? Who has inspired you the most? How long does it take you to perfect an illusion? Who was the first to come up with illusion as a way of life, you or your husband?
I watched all of Americas Got Talent. I saw the 80 yr old tapdancer and the 4 yr old vocalist. I watched the whole show aand never saw you. Why not"

It gives you something in common with the rest of us.
I don't know why AGT made the decision it did, I just know that due to the vagaries of television these things sometimes happen.
What I did last night was hit You Tube and My Space and watched all the Pendragon stuff and pretended it was on America's Got Talent. Except for Helice telling me to "shut up, stop saying 'you're going to Vegas, you're going to Vegas' " every five seconds, it was really fun!
Liz, I know you're having trouble getting into chat, start early so you can get there on time, and if it happens to let you right in...don't move!
Sorry guys! The business of entertainment is 90% disappointment. When you get used to that...you will be ok!
What I didn't know until last evening...is there will be 2 or 3 more of these "massive" 2 hour marathon episodes!!! My own familiarity with the past program, is there is one season opening before the the seasonal show. Because the Olympics and the Presidental Conventions have wiped out the summer season, most of this will air in the Fall! How they plan to skip over 2 months of non airing of their program..to Sept. is beyond me and out of my hands.
I was told by an associate, our appearance has been featured in a national commercial as well as Monday's Entertainment Tonight (neither of which I can find on line).
Apparently, we will be on next week or the following week or both and in early late August, early Sept. They do not tell the contestants when and if they are on the program. I certainly don't expect anyone to sit through 2 or 3 more hours of that stuff to watch 2 minutes of our material. To be honest, the material is all on You Tube and My Space and our own website... You'll only miss some judges smiling faces. .
I did take note, most of the summer's programming is all Reality TV contests... several takes on the original American Idol. Everything from Circus to Nashville Country Singers. Last eve's segment of AGT seemed to want to prove the point - they are bigger and badder than the rest of what is out there. Maybe they are, but in doing so...trying to prove 35,000 performers auditioned for this show, they might loose what intimacy they may have once had. Part of the interest in TV, is the personalities. The box in your living room is only so big, so a performer must play "small", rather than big. It is my opinion, shows like AGT, American Idol have been successful, because they were able to reach that fine balance of big and "I'm here in your lving room"... If you happen to see one of the performers from a popular TV program shopping, say a Jay Leno, he is approachable, because he has been in your home. AGT and American Idol perfected that formula, but it was lost in last eve's show...
Liz, to answer your other questions, Jonathan has been a magician since he was a young boy. He is a trained actor... He is the real gymnast, an all- American gymnast. He used these talents as a stuntman for many years. In fact it can easily be said his best piece of magic was doubling John Belushi for the back hand springs down the church aisle in the Blue's Brothers. I have had gymnastics training, but training muscles in gymnastics works antagonistically against the muscles you train in dance.
You're forgiven! I'm so sorry, my chat ended so abruptly! We had one of those California brown outs...our power went off, at first for a few minutes, then for a about a half hour. I am questioning if is was one, as it was a bit late in the day! It is over 100 degrees here today, and no one expected this high of temperature.
I hope to chat again soon. You were all very enjoyable with great questions. I will check in, so please feel free to ask away... Night!
Since it sounds like you didn't make it back to the chat I'll assume I'm not being too redundant by saying thanks for the chat. It was interesting and fun. If you solve the brown out trick maybe sometime you could show us how that's done.

As we touched on briefly in last night's chat, the Pendragons are known for performing the fastest "Metamorphosis" in the magic profession.
Here's a video from YouTube showing The Pendragons, Charlotte and Jonathan, performing their lightning-fast version of Metamorphosis! (please note Charlotte's costume color!)
Isn't this illusion fabulous? Dax and I think so. In fact, on our very first date, by chance we were at an outdoor venue where we saw the Pendragons perform this very illusion, and it was so memorable for us that we've talked about it for years. Imagine what a thrill it was for us to finally get to talk with Charlotte herself!
We believe that Charlotte Pendragon will be checking in on this thread from time to time, so feel free to offer comments, compliments, and questions!

Wish I could make our cold weather disappear!
Your costume change problem reminded me of a quick change I had in a production of "Babes in Arms." I just stood behind the closed curtain while stage-hands whisked off one dress and zipped me into another. It was the first time I'd appeared in underwear in front of men. Funny--I never thought anything of it.
I guess, from your answer in the Shout Box that you don't wear a body suit!

Helice, I will have to locate some video of her "dog talk". Samoyeds are known for their vocalization. Her big word is "hello" and also "I love you". If she is in the mood, her vocalization of these two phrases (when prompted to say them) really sound as if she is saying "hello" and "I love you". Often times she is not in the mood and she just yelps out a big short bark... I don't see the pic I posted? I will try again.
Liz , no guy has ever seen me in underwear, except my hubby! I was locked in a small box when the costume malfunction occurred. Coincidentally, this performance was LIVE on TV - A Houdini Seance type special. Maybe Houdini's spirit was in there with me, messing things up a bit! Boy, he can be mishchivious!

Which brings me to a question.
Houdini had a huge and comprehensive collection of magic equipment, books, etc. Many magicians I know like to collect books or posters etc. associated with magic.
So I wondered if you pursued any kind of magic collection as a hobby?
