liz, I am a civillian with military background. I maintain contact with many vets groups thru my charitable work. I have seen the effects that war has had on these poor people. If, as a society, we choose to sacrifice people's sanity or lives for the greater good then it needs to be a really good reason to serve up the youth of the US, and other countries, as cannon-fodder. the lie of WMDs is not such a reason. Re obese, no I was speaking of the trips my wife and I have made to these regions and, nasty as it sounds, self-preservation kicks in when one is being shot at.

I never reallised how angry I was at this stupid war until I started writing to the thread.

Given the current administtration, there seems to be no greater good than the good given to the adminstration and its frieds. I am so very, very tired of it all.

I'm tired of the excuses given us by our opposition brothers. I'm tired of their denial that oil has anything to do with our assault on Iraq. I'm tired of the lies, the scare tactics, the posturing.

Stay angry, Draeco,. I don't often agree that anger can result in real change--so often anger does nothing more than introduce another factor in the general shceme of things, Yet anger gave us our freedon, didn't it?

Thank you Draeco and Liz....also thank you LM for giving us another perspective. I started a threat in Hot Buttons regarding Ahmadinejad's Sunday visit to Baghdad. He was greeted with a red carpet, flowers and kisses. He walked right in, no secret sneaking around... It is truly ironic that if there is any worthy deed accomplish by the Cheney adminstration, it is we brought these two enemies together.

Is this the beginning of the end of the War in Iraq?

In a trip fraught with political meaning, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Baghdad on Sunday for a two-day visit. Ahmadinejad's presence in Iraq was a major propaganda victory. Not only was it the first visit to Iraq by an Iranian leader since the Iranian Revolution in 1979, it was the first by any Middle East leader since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003. The manner of Ahmadinejad's arrival was striking. Unlike President Bush's surprise appearances in Iraq, which are kept secret until the last minute, Ahmadinejad announced his trip weeks ago. While most foreign officials visiting Iraq normally travel by helicopter to avoid the dangerous airport highway, Ahmadinejad, after "descend[ing] the stairs of his presidential jet smiling and waving," traveled by motorcade to the home of Iraqi President Jalal Talibani. There, in "Iraq's first full state welcome for any leader since the US-led invasion," the two men "clasped hands and exchanged traditional kisses on the cheeks before walking together down a red carpet to review an honor guard as a military band played the two national anthems."

This Iraq war is so lame, that even the so called willing coalition
( or allies) are down to what " Lithuania" ,is Poland still there?
oh Yeah I think Canada has about 50 soldiers there. The only armies that arte truly invested in Iraq are the U.S., and the U.K. ( and they are beginnig to withdraw from Southern Iraq).

I say let's get the hell out of there, save some precious american lives and taxpayers money that funds this stupid occupation.

Gosh, that's what Paul Wolfowitz and other architects of the Bush-Cheney war told us would happen when Americans landed there.

How is it that Iran, another country comprising the axis of evil, should be so warmly welcomed? I guess the good old American "can-do" spirit has invaded Iraq along with our troops, and given the Iraqi people that sense of pride and dignity that allows them to greet even their former enemies this way.

So yes, in a sense the Iraqis are greeting Ahmadinejad with flowers, but aren't they really greeting the Americans--us--with flowers as well?

Because we saved them from Saddam and made their lives much better and more fulfilling these past six years, while Iran has done nothing but develop their nuclear weapons.

So remember--when they cheer Ahmadinejad--they are cheering for US, my friends, for the U.S. of A.
