Well it's time for the 2008 Fool Moon Fantasy Nascar. The Car of Tomorrow is now the official car of Nascar. We can now call it the Car of Today. It's time to see if Jimmie Johnson can win the championship three times in a row. It's time for some new drivers to shine. It's time to see if some drivers can shine once again in different rides with different bosses. It's time for drivers to make their new sponsors happy. It's time to start winning. It's time to go RACING!!!!
This season I am going to make some changes. Not only will we be picking drivers in the Sprint Cup Series (formerly the Nextel Cup), we will also be doing the Nationwide Series (formerly the Busch series). I will also be adding for bonus points, the rookie list. You will pick who you think will do the best in each race of the rookies.
I will put up the list for each series for you all. Now remember, the Nationwide series doesn't have a s many races as the Sprint Cup so there will not always be a list for them. In that case, you will only be picking a Sprint Cup driver and a rookie.
So if you wish to play, you can tell me here or you can send me a pm. I will need to know soon so I can get my list together.
The first race will be the Budweiser Shootout on Feb. 9th. It's not a points race. It will be a chance for you to see how the drivers might do in the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17th.
Let the games begin!! Good luck to all.

Well it's time for the 30th Annual Sprint Cup Budweiser Shoot-out at Daytona Speedway. It is the first non-points race to begin the season and a chance to win 1 million dollars and a litle bragging rights. It is also the chance to see how the cars are going to be on the Daytona Speedway.
We have a lot of drivers who have changed owners they driver for and new cars they will be driving. Such names are Dale Earnhardt Jr now driving for Hendricks racing driving the 88 car. Kasey Kahne will now be sponsored by Budweiser (formerly Earnhardt Jr.s sponsor) Mark Martin will now be driving the #8 car (formerly Earnhardt Jr's car) with the U.S. Army as it's sponsor. Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin will now be driving Toyotas this season. (formerly driving Chevys) J.J. Yeley will now be driving the #96 car (formerly drove the 18 for Gibbs racing now driven by Kyle Busch).
There are many other changes you will hear about over the next few weeks as some other changes will be finalized. Here is a list of the pole sitters from last season and past Shoot-out winners who will be in the final portion of the Shoot-out.
1-Martin Truex Jr.-Chevrolet-Bass Pro Shops / Tracker 2-Kurt Busch-Dodge-Miller Lite 5-Casey Mears-Chevrolet-CARQUEST / Kellogg's 07-Clint Bowyer-Chevrolet-Jack Daniel's *8-Mark Martin-Chevrolet-U.S. Army 9-Kasey Kahne-Dodge-Budweiser 11-Denny Hamlin-Toyota-FedEx Express 12-Ryan Newman-Dodge-ALLTEL 16-Greg Biffle-Ford-3M *20-Tony Stewart-Toyota-The Home Depot *21-Bill Elliott-Ford-U.S. Air Force 22-Dave Blaney-Toyota-Caterpillar 24-Jeff Gordon-Chevrolet-DuPont 26-Jamie McMurray-Ford-Crown Royal Cask No. 16 38-David Gilliland -Ford-FreeCreditReport.com 41-Reed Sorenson-Dodge-Target *44-Dale Jarrett-Toyota-UPS 48-Jimmie Johnson-Chevrolet-Lowe's *49-Ken Schrader -Dodge-Qtrax.com 55-Michael Waltrip- Toyota-NAPA AUTO PARTS 88-Dale Earnhardt Jr.-Chevrolet-National Guard / AMP Energy 96-J.J. Yeley -Toyota-DLP HDTV 99-Carl Edwards-Ford-Office Depot
(*marks the past winners that made the race. The others are last years pole sitters)
Shootout Format
The starting positions for the Shootout will be determined by a random draw.
Beginning in 2003, the Shootout was formatted into two segments. The first segment is 20 laps followed by a 10-minute intermission.
During the intermission teams may change tires or perform any other action that would be part of a normal pit stop.
The second segment is 50 laps and must end in a green-white-checkered finish. Caution laps will count toward the total in both segments so the second segment may extend beyond the scheduled 70-lap total.
2007 Eligibility
The 23-driver field for the Shootout will be the record for the largest field in the history of the event. (The previous high was 22 in 2002.)
There were 18 drivers who gained eligibility by winning a pole in 2007, while five others are eligible because they are past winners of the Shootout (and finished in the top 50 in final series point standings). Four drivers will be competing in the event for the first time.

If there are any indicators as to how intense this season is going to be, tonight during practice it might've become evident. Tony Stewart accidentally tapped Kurt Busch headed into turn three. Busch got turned a little and hit the wall. Stewart went down to avoid him and slightly touched his teammate Denny Hamlin. Well as they entered pit road, Busch ran his car into Stewart not once, not twice but three times. These two had similar problems last season. All of this and the points races haven't even started yet. Looks like we're in for a long season.
Here is an interesting stat for you all. Dale Jarrett has won the Shoot-out 3 times. The interesting part about that is that he won all of those on presidential election years. (1996, 2000,2004) Can he do it 4 in a row in his last season?

Heck of a start for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in winning the Budweiser Shootout. He kicked butt and answered the bell. It might be preseason but a win is a win. The whole Hendricks team worked well together and will lead the rest this year again. The joy on Junior's face in winner's circle said it all. Finally he can focus on racing more.
Side note to Theresa Earnhardt: See, how hard is it to be there to support your drivers by being there?

I must make one thing clear to all the players. Since I have included the Nationwide cars, I must tell you about their qualifying. They always qualify on the day they race. Usually in the mornings and race that afternoon or evening. So on Saturday (or Friday sometimes) after they qualify in the morning, I will immediately put up their qualifying order. You have about three hours (most of the time) to get your picks in. So you must look here on Saturday late morning or early afternoon and make your picks. If you don't, then you will get your last pick you made.
So for the record, I will post both race line-ups at the same time. You don't really have to pick in both right then, just the Nationwide. To make it look fair, you must put your picks here in the forums for both races. That way no one can think I allowed a pick after the race started. (That mainly applies to the Nationwide picks)
Any questions?

I have a small question.Since some drivers opt in or out of driving both series, can we as players in this fantasy league opt out of nationwide races? I ask because I work saturday days and getting a pick in might be difficult unless I guess bfore qualifying however, I do wish to participate in the phone services series so count me in and glad the league is back!!! Thank you

Well Matt, if you want to opt out on the Nationwide, you can. Or you could just pick driver before qualifying. Or you could just pick one driver for the whole season if you want. If you don't make a pick in there, then I won't add your name in there. Right now I am just trying to see if I can do both series. This same day qualifying might be too hard to do and I will just have to forget about doing both. If you want to only do the Sprint series, we can. Anybody want to just do the Sprint series?

So lets take the challenge and try to move forward. There is no prizes just a stimulating situation of racing and picking who you think might be a winner. I say lets go for it all or go home.

We will see how this weekend goes. I will only put up the qualifying order for the Nationwide since I can't get stats for each individual race for the drivers in Nationwide.
Question for you all. Do any of you care about the stats for the drivers in the Sprint series? Or should I only put the qualifying order?

The qualifying in Nationwide won't mean much to me until I know who is who. I'll just pick on Fridays or something based on something other than qualifying. Maybe something like current standings will mean more and I will just pick someone from the top 10 until I learn more. Probably drivers that also run in Sprint will get my picks. I wish they wouldn't race both series but for now I know the dual duty drivers do best in Nationwide.
I like reading the stats on the Sprint drivers. They didn't help my picks last year but they are cool to read. I imagine past stats on races like Daytona won't mean much since it is a new car. I do consider the past in picking Sprint drivers. The better drivers are likely to dominate in the new car since they can adapt better.
