I just bought this book by the well known trial lawyer, Gerry Spence, and it is hilarious and a great read. The title is "Bloodthirsty B*tches And Pious Pimps of Power: The Rise and Risks of The New Conservative Hate Culture."
Spence takes on what he calls the conservative media hatemongers (Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Pat Robertson, etc.) and the blonde female media harpies (Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Nancy Grace...and others entertaining us in the world of "blowhard demogoguery." At one point Spence refers to O'Reilly as a "yodeler" for the conservative cause.
One of the most enjoyable parts of the book is chapter 4 "For I Have Sinned: The saga of Bill O'Reilly." Spence tells about watching one of Bill's hour long TV shows which he calls an "...hour-long extravaganza of hate, holler, and howl." He goes on to compare the methods of O'Reilly and the other so-called conservative talking heads to Hitler's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, saying both Goebbels and O'Reilly considered/consider themselves to be moderates. He quotes Goebbells several times when comparing his methods with those of O'Reilly and the Fox Network.
"The rank and File are usually much more primitive than we imagine. Propaganda must therefore always be essentially simple and repetitious...the most brilliant propagandist technique will yeild no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly...it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over." (Like the neo-conservative tactic of blaming everything that goes wrong on those dastardly liberals and traitorous Democrats might be an example of this old tried and true Nazi strategy.)
This is a very enlightening and entertaining book which I highly recommend. Go Gerry Spence! We need more trial lawyers. Imagine the horror of having to depend on a hate talk show host to represent you in court. {{{{{{Shudder}}}}}}}
