Myth №1.

If you have a sore throat don’t visit a doctor.
No, this is wrong. Sore throat can be caused not only by angina, but different infectios diseases. Diphtheria, for example.

Myth №2.

Herbs can solve this problem.
It depends on diagnosis. If it is just pharyngitis, chamomile will help you, but angina needs to be cured by antibiotics. Only doctors can say.

Myth №3.

Hot compresses, especially with ethanol, are a wonderful remedy.
Yes, but not for little children. Mix vodka with oil and warm it till 36-38 C (100 F). Steep cotton in this mixture and put it around a neck. Put any waterproof material on it and wind a scarf around your neck.

Myth №4.

Stop taking medicines when you are better.
No. It is necessary to take a course of treatment completely. Otherwise, the infection become resistant to these medicines.

Myth №5.

Angina is a result of catching cold.
No. Angina is an infectious disease. Catching cold just helps it to penetrate into organism. By the way we can catch one of the most dangerous pathogens of angina with food – milk, meat, vegetables- if a carrier of this infection touched them.

Myth №6.

Don’t bring temperature down.
To some extent. Temperature shouldn’t be more than 38,5C (101F).

Myth №7.

It is necessary to drink a lot – tea with honey, warm milk.
Yes, it is true.

Does anybody know any other remedies for sore throat?

Gargle with warm salt water--it does work--however, the best thing to do is see your doctor.

A sore throat could mean anything from infected tonsils to a strep infection.

I don't know what you mean by angina, which is, to me, heart pain rather than throat pain. Please explain.

Angina is any disease of the throat marked by spasmodic attacks of intense suffocative pain. It is a heart condition marked by paroxysms of chest pain due to reduced oxygen to the heart as well. Heart diseases are often cased by complications in angina (sore throat).

Regarding Myth №6....
 Quote:

Don’t bring temperature down.
To some extent. Temperature shouldn’t be more than 38,5C (101F).

Whenever I have a minor illness, viral or bacterial, I've always self-treated myself by trying to aid my system in doing what its natural defense is -- raise body temperature. For annoying colds, minor sore throats, coughs, anything that might be caused by a simple minor bacterial or viral infection, I help my body give itself a slight fever by taking hot baths, drinking hot soups and hot tea, staying bundled up and warm, etc.

Fever is your body's natural defense against infection -- most germs can only thrive and multiply well within a very narrow temperature range. A slight fever can be your best friend in combating a sore throat or cold. Most people become alarmed if their temperature rises to 100 or 100.5 degrees F, and they gulp down Tylenol or aspirin to lower their temp. Usually they do this prematurely, since lowering the temperature is counterproductive to the natural disease-fighting process, and prolongs the cold or sore throat.

I must stress, though, that only *slight* fever is beneficial for fighting an infection... a *very* high fever is just as bad for your body's cells as it is for the invaders. It has to do with the temperature at which proteins and enzymes begin to break down... if your temperature starts to climb above 101-102 it's important to bring it down before your own cells are damaged (105 degrees + would start to be very dangerous).

This method has also worked very well for me in the past for minor cuts, scrapes, and burns that showed signs of becoming red and infected. I have soaked the affected area in very warm water (or applied heat) for extended times and had threatened infections completely disappear from small cuts.

Caution: this is anecdotal advice, I'm not a medical professional, consult your doctor before treating yourself in any way, and never ever experiment on sick children with tips you get over the internet. \:\) And if you have a HIGH fever, persistent cough, or blood in your sputum, for heaven's sake get off the computer and see your doctor. All I wanted to say is that this method works for me. Oh, and take lots of Vitamin C, too. ;\)

Gargling with salt water works well on sore throats, just don't swallow the liquid, unless you want to poison your kidneys ;\) .

My mom uses to make up a mixture of egg white, lemon juice, and sometimes honey, which you could take from a spoon to help cut phlegm (though the lemon might be a little harsh if your throat is sore).

I have found that most warm drinks seem to sooth the throat.

Echinacea has been found to increase resistance to cold virus infections and to reduce the time spent with a cold, so perhaps you could add a good echinacea supplement to your arsenal against sore throats and flu like symptoms.

Hot liquids are great. My favorite is chicken broth, even unsalted is great. For a bit of an energy boost, chicken noodle does wonders.

Gargling with salt water doesn't work that good for me. I may not have a sore throat, but what is also good is gargling with mouthwash. But it might be strep throat, it hurts to talk and swallow. It's always good to drink hot liquids though, like chicken noodle soup. smile But I might have to see the doctor for this. It gets even worse every day, so if anyone knows what else I can do to help, please tell me. Thanks smile
