Well, we are likely to start shutting this house down in earnest in August. The shippers will come and get all my stuff and take it away. Once I vanish, I will likely be gone for 60-90 days...I sure HOPE they don't take longer than that to get my stuff to Alaska. It took 108 days to get my stuff to Hawaii from Belgium though...Anyway, the move will interrupt my Fool Moon participation but will be no means end it! I will certainly be posting lots of pics of the trip...I might even be in some of them...if you look real hard at reflective surfaces...lol

Well, just to show that I am a real, live, flesh and blood person behind the screen name, I have posted a picture below. It is me up on Diamond Head in Hawaii. For those who don't know, Diamond Head is an extinct (?) volcano on the south east corner of Oahu, the most heavily populated of the Hawaiian Islands. A Coastal Artillery battery was placed inside the crater, with various lookouts to the seaward side. This is one, on the rim of the crater. The views are stunning, though this picture does not show them well. You can look down and see some of the most expensive real estate on the island...I think that this picture will make an interesting contrast to the pictures I will be showing in a few months when my trip is complete.

Anyway, good luck getting your piece up through canada. From what I understand, they're not too fond of sidearms up there. What are you carrying by the way? You might almost be better off mailing it to yourself. I do agree that a dog is possibly a better form of defense than a gun is though. I can't tell you how many times, when I was living down in the city, that I've seen some of the more shadier characters nearly jump and run at the sight of a rottie or a pit coming down the street with his owner. It was quite comical really. All the dog had to do was give that look and dude would be all buggin out.

Anywho, good luck on the trip.

It's interesting that from where you're standing you can look down on some of the most expensive real estate on Oahu, and their view is of a missile silo.

Re guns: I assume you are authorized by the US Military to carry a gun. If you are permitted to carry one off duty, you should check with your guys about customs.

If you aren't, the answer is probably "no."

However it works out, have a great trip, I look forward to seeing more pics.

Enjoy Carlsbad Lawmage. If you had the time it is worth touring Lincoln New Mexico and Capulin. Lots of history in both places.

I know it's funny coming from me since I'm not here much but my daughter was sick, then my husband, and now me. Plus, I have lots to do before school starts again.

I am sure you will enjoy your trip. Sounds like you move a lot but you get to see the world. Does your wife enjoy moving a lot?
