She's a 1970 Chinese made SKS chambered in the 7.62x39 round. It's in near perfect condition. For now, it has a fixed 10 round magazine which needs to be loaded from the top down. Of course the first modification I plan is to remove the fixed magazine so I can replace it with removable higher capacity AK style mags. It is a rifle that is rich in history and is the precursor to the infamous AK-47.

The SKS was mass produced by many of the communist bloc nations from the late fifties up to the early 1980's. It's a solid, accurate, and highly reliable weapon that is greatly under appreciated by most gun enthusiasts.

I'll post some higher quality images when time allows.

Scary like "Why do you need or want a bayonet?"

Because, when it was manufactured back in 1970, that's how they came from the factory in China. It also has a built in compartment in the butt stock that houses the cleaning kit. All in all it's a nifty little rifle.

It's more of a historical collectors piece than anything else. For now. Until I get my Tapco synthetic mod and turn it into something a bit more tactical.

The short barrel para trooper version. Nice.

Some of the after market 30 and up round magazines are a little off and cause the first round to eject from the top of the mag and lay loose in the breech when inserted to the rifle. The work around for that is to hold the top round down while you insert the mag. Be careful not to let the bolt close on your thumb. When that bolt travels home, it does so with great conviction. Mine has never closed on me.

Nice rug too. I'll have to post pics of mine soon.

And Helice, every gun should have a bayonet.

Oh, Aint, I didn't know you wore a toupee. You should look into getting plugs.

I was wondering about that.. I knew it had a shorter barrel than most but I wasn't sure if it was the paratrooper model or not.

I think I might go with some Tapco synthetic 20 round magazines. I've read nothing but good things about them. Tapco also makes a synthetic Fusion system that replaces all the wood... Comes with a SAW style pistol grip and a collapsible stock. It's only $90, too.

My main goal right now is to get out and fire the thing. And you're right, there is a HELL of a lot of force behind that bolt. I'm surprise the gas builds up enough pressure to force it back.
